Go to http://www.nighthawk750.com/ and click "modifications" and then "Tim

Just metal.

Hey gang! I had an issue today and I am trying to get some input on how to
remedy it. Bike is a 91 cb 750. 49000miles. Going on 8yrs with me. I was trying
to leave today and the bike wouldn't start. I turned the key, and the indicator
lights came on as usual but when I hit the starter button all I heard was a
click. Then the lights went off. The "click" came from the "box" to which the
positive lead from the battery goes to. From the "box" then the wires separate
to four smaller wires. I looked at the fuse in the plug with the four wires,
(30a) and it was fine. It took me about 10 tries, then the bike started fine as
usual. Thanks for any help in advance!

I learned on a NH 250 in a MSF course years ago. Eventually moved to an
ST1100, then downsized to a VFR. Gave up biking some years back to preserve a
marriage. Bad decision. I hanker to get going again. Sensible way is with
another NH250. Are there any around the 91711 zip code for sale?

When was the battery replaced last? If you get more than three seasons on a

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Starting issue.

2014-10-18 Thread Kurt Nolte
Slight tangent, but I've always been puzzled by the short lifespans of
batteries in bikes. I wonder if it's related to that long unused period,
versus year-round use you get in a warmer climate.

I say this because the Nighthawk had a three year old battery when I bought
it, still worked fine a year later when I replaced it with an on-sale AGM.
The VFR battery was two years old, still worked fine when replaced with a
stock shaped battery while fixing plastics.

Of course, maybe I'm just supremely lucky. I don't often need to replace
car batteries either; the OEM in the Lancer lasted nine years, the family
Equinox was still on its OE battery after ten years and almost 300k miles.
The only vehicle that's had more regular battery replacements is the
diesel, and those are a bit undersized in my opinion.

[Nighthawk Lovers] 75 Honda CB750 Super Sport

2014-10-18 Thread jman2343
Something I've been thinking about for sometime, a cafe racer. Well just
last weekend I went on to CL and spotted a 1975 CB750F Super sport for
sale, 300 bucks, complete parts bike. Called the guy up he said it runs
and has paper work.. Okay, I'll be over.

Get to his place and he tells me he gave me the wrong info. The bike has
no paper work, and seized engine. I look it over, can tell its been
sitting but everything is there minus some minor stuff. Offer 200 bucks
and off I go with it in the back of the truck.

So, as far as getting it registered I'm going the way of Vermont, Already
called my state police and there is nothing coming back on the bike, the
plate that was on it expired in 2003 and has been reissued already to a
1999 something (can't legally tell me what bike or who, not that I asked)
however bill of sale, a VIN check I can get it registered out of state
(search it if you want more info)

So seized engine, Well nothing was open to air, only other thing I could
think of would have been low oil and cooked it. I mean you could stand on
the kick start; took the cover off the points, put a wrench on the boss at
the end of the crank shaft, and it turns! The kick start was just in a
spot that wouldn't allow it to move! Hit the kick start and could tell it
had some type of compression. The wire harness is messed up, and there is
a short. Pulled carbs, put power to B+ of coils, grounded the frame.
Sprayed some silicone spray into the intakes, hit the kick start and she
fired for a second. Good enough for me :) Wont do anything else till I
got paper work and it legally mine, but have a good feeling.

Bike batteries tend to be under sized and combined with poor charging
systems makes them expendable. You can prolong the life of your battery
simply by having it attached to a battery tender any time your not.on the
bike. Dont use a harbor freigjt or cycle gear float charger. This is
something where you want the deltran battery tender name behind it.
