[nlug] tomorrow's meeting???

2011-01-10 Thread Paul Weiss
Hello,

Does anyone know if tomorrow's meeting is canceled? I'm the speaker and not
sure of the safety on the roads tomorrow night?

Roads are pretty bad here in Huntsville we got about 8-12 of snow and
almost everything is closed.

Please advise.

Assuming the snow stops before this evening, it should be fine to go ahead
with the meeting. TDOT, at least, is very good about getting the roads
clear, if they have an eight hour window without additional accumulation.
If the snow continues, however, it is likely that very few people will be
in attendance. Of course, for you, the real question is whether you can
get out of Huntsville safely. If not, I think we'll understand.

RE: [nlug] tomorrow's meeting???

2011-01-10 Thread john
I think that canceling tomorrow night's meeting would probably be a good idea,
as we are predicted to get a mix of snow and freezing rain tomorrow, on too of
the current three to four inches of snow. I don't know if it would be possible
for us to reschedule the NLUG meeting for later in January.

I'm with John for cancellation of the January meeting. I've had NO
problems navigating to and from Nashville and to and from Springfield.
I drove my 4X4 truck to work Sunday night and it was total overkill. No
problems driving Monday morning

The introduction of ice into the equation forecast for Tuesday changes
that completely. Snow is manageable, ice is lethal.

A foot of snow in Huntsville AL is a mountain compared to the 1 inch of
snow we had in Adams; Nashville had more like 2-4 inches.

Now is a great time to mention the January LinuxFest to be held January
22 at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film. I've got things to work
on and appreciate help. Have a couple Turnkeylinux.org packages I
want to install and test. Want to unbrick a couple SNOM IP phones.

Paul - please check your upcoming schedules both for January 22 and
February 8. Truth is, you are welcome any time - we aren't that fussy.

It's official, then. We will cancel this month's regularly scheduled
meeting tomorrow night.

We will still plan to hold our January Linux Fest on the 22nd,
assuming it has stopped snowing by then:)

Several of the Sys Admins here at Franklin American Mortgage Company use
Puppet and seem to like it very much. I have not taken a look at it yet.
However, from what they are telling me, it is very nice.
