[No Thirst Software] Help! This is so not working.
I'm really starting to pull my hair out with this app, because the buckets just don't seem to work and I can't figure out why. For example, one of my buckets is Automobile. I changed the start tracking date to March and allocated my salary on March 1, thinking I had figured things out. When I start the app, the buckets with allocations show green ovals with money in them. When I click on the Automobile bucket, it lists the Feb transactions. So I clicked on the Mar 2009 bar in the graph, which is completely empty. Suddenly, all the allocations in all the buckets disappeared. When I looked in the right panel under cash flows, it shows all the March allocations with green plus signs and each says it's from the Salary bucket. But no money in *any* buckets, some of them are greyed out, and none are tipped over. I am running OS X 10.5.6 and Monewell 1.4.2. Does anyone know what causes this? It's frustrating, because it is really defeating the purpose of the app. Thanks, Lynne --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "No Thirst Software User Forum" group. [No Thirst Software] Re: Help! This is so not working.
Now I'm even more confused! It won't show the March inflow into the buckets, except in the right-hand panel. When I open the app, it shows the Feb buckets. It won't show ANY inflow into any buckets from March in the buckets, although the panel on the right-hand side shows there were inflows from allocating the salary. When I click on the background of the graph, at first it shows nothing in the buckets. After clicking on the background repeatedly, it now shows an amount in the Automobile bucket that is $ 13.45 less than the total inflows from Feb and March minus the total outflows. But the little arrow that shows the date tracking was supposed to start is still on March. And it's now doing something strange with allocating income where, instead of allocating the amount I tell it to do, it puts in half of what it put in last time. Hi Lynn, If you started your cash flow tracking as of March 1, 2009 there won't be any inflows to any bucket except the one income bucket you set to get your cash flow start amount. You should only need to click on the graph background once to see the bucket amounts go from gray back to red/green. Here are the steps you should have followed to get started with MoneyWell: 1. Created buckets and accounts when prompted 2. Set your cash flow start date using Edit > Change Cash Flow Start Date 3. Set your Spending Plan 4. Allocate Income to your buckets You can have several months of transaction history without tracking cash flow. In step 2, add up all your available spending cash (exclude savings and investments) to use as the amount and that will take care of all the money you had left over from previous months. [No Thirst Software] switching "Memo" to "Payee" process/function?
Some of the Quicken files I have to download are funky: they list the Payee as "WITHDRAW" and the Memo as the name of the payee. I find this endlessly frustrating because other accounts of mine import as I expect (withdraw as a type, payee in the payee field, memo blank for me to fill in). I've tried in vain to get the "memorized transactions" to do this change, but I can't seem to get the hang of memorized transactions. They seem too aggressive, too data destructive, and not granular enough for me. Maybe if I knew *exactly* how they worked I could taylor them to my needs. So, my info request: Does anyone have a tip on getting a ton of "Memo" text to be just moved to the other column (Payee)? Well, your "few scenarios" is every single time I import a QIF from my bank. The QIF data on a transaction provided is always unassigned and my payees are always "WITHDRAW". So every time I import, I have to go through all the records and uncheck them because only 2-3 of 50 are similar transactions. Every month, lather, rinse, repeat. I might have to buy a new mouse soon; the button's all worn down. ;) In my opinion, the solution could be: 1. a select/deselect all checkbox 2. less aggressive transaction memorization, like making memorization less automatic, and make sure *lots* of columns match (rather than any old txt string in any column) before offering to change them. for example, I manually labeled my first amazon.com transaction a "gift." now everything from amazon is a "gift" and it took some work to straighten this out. 3. more control over the Update Similar process- like filters in the sheet itself, so I can easily group things I know are similar, and not trust a ham-fisted string match. I'm not being overly negative. I really like the app, but there are some assumptions it makes about clean and regular data input which just doesn't exist (as I've seen when I have to rely on someone else's heterogeneous data output). --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "No Thirst Software User Forum" group. [No Thirst Software] Importing an QFX to an existing account
One of my financial institutions lets me download transactions as QFX files, but when they import, they always become new accounts, no additions to existing accounts. The QIF files they have for download just add to the selected, existing account. Is there a way I can force an account to pick up the QFX data and NOT have it become its own account? The QFX has more data in it (odd, but true) and has all the columns correct, the QIF needs a bunch of tweaking afterward. [No Thirst Software] import
I am testing Moneywell 1.4.3 on Tiger 10.4.11. It looks great and easy to use. However, when I import my bank data via csv file, I am asked to match the fields (file column versus transaction field). I have tried several possibilities, but I cannot get the transaction date right (day of the transaction into the date field). It keeps using today's date for all transactions. Any idea what I might do wrong? Thanks Hansp --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "No Thirst Software User Forum" group. I apologize about this problem but the idea that a financial institution would label everything as WITHDRAWAL is a bit crazy. When a transaction is processed at a checkout, your FI is given detailed information strings. To toss those away for no good reason is a very bad business and IT move. The big problem right now is that MoneyWell assumes the payee is still fairly unique so it auto memorizes that if you change the payee name by hand. Once you give a memorized transaction a unique alias to match and remove the generic one, life should be better for you. > So, my info request: > Does anyone have a tip on getting a ton of "Memo" text to be just > moved to the other column (Payee)? That's not an easy action unfortunately. I'm adding an option to swap these two fields but I'm not sure when that will appear. It should be 1.5 at the latest. You should also complain loudly to your financial institution. If they offer OFX over QIF, try that as well. The QFX format is a much newer format than QIF and should always be used when available. [No Thirst Software] Direct Connect with Citibank worth the fees?
Hi. I'm a long time Quicken user taking the plunge into MoneyWell. I'm slowly figuring out the new way of thinking. However I am wondering about the value of paying for Direct Connect. I have my checking and savings accounts at Citibank (please hold your bailout comments until later). I pay a monthly fee to have Quicken Direct Connect access. In Quicken it makes life pretty easy to just hit download and bam, your recent transactions show up, you classify them and your done. But paying $9.95/month is starting to bother me. The fact that the gov't is pouring trainloads of money into this blackhole of a bank AND I have to pay another $9.95/month for Direct Connect is really pushing me out the door of Citibank. If I switched to a bank without Direct Connect, would it really make things more difficult? I am thinking of switching to TD Bank which is on MW's financial institution list. What sort of differences would I see? Anything? Thanks. Gary --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "No Thirst Software User Forum" group.
