It's definitely a cool exhibit. Went there today... and in addition to large
prints of the pics shown on the website, are the even more interesting contact
sheets from other photo shoots, where you see the innocent and very camera shy
Prince trying to pose for the camera.
There are shots with closed eyes, goofy smiles, 70s disco thumbs up gestures,
etc. Fascinating!

Moderator: Oh I guess I won't be call you to see if you are going to come :-P

Didn't you get your Purple Pox shots back in the early 90s. Same old,
different Decade.

You know, lots of other artists actually support their fans endeavors on their
behalf.

I understand that he and Universal have the right to do this. But it smacks a
little of biting the hand that feeds you.

You're so vain; I bet
you think this all is about you

Just
went to Housequake.com and noticed they closed their video forum due to a
letter from Universal on behalf of Prince.
So silly for Prince to do that.
They weren't making money off of the
forum. He will never learn. I already
miss it.

Andy

Moderator: I noticed they did the same thing on YouTube a few weeks ago with
the Superbowl performance.

I don't understand the point. Are
they planing do it themselves? They take things away but don't give us what we
want -Derek

2007-02-20 Thread Zaheer Ali

I actually didn't try to... usually it's not allowed esp with issues
of reproducing photographs/images, so I didn't even ask.

They did have museum post cards with one of the images on it (the one
with him standing in front of the building with all the music
notes)... and those were free. The woman told me to take as much as I
wanted so I grabbed a handful :)

I'll be out of town this weekend, so if y'all go, sorry I won't be
able to make it. Have fun!

NPNY: WHERE IS PRINCE'S PROTÉGÉ TAMAR?

2007-02-20 Thread Derek
WHERE IS PRINCE’S PROTÉGÉ TAMAR?: Her album has been shelved; until Grammy
night, she hadn’t seen Prince in six months.
February 19, 2007

 http://www.eurweb.com/story/eur31546.cfm

*The build-up was perfectly orchestrated for singer Tamar Davis, who
was introduced to the world by Prince as the next big voice in RB.

The singer put in work as a background vocalist for the Purple One,
and even recorded her own songs for an album to be released under Universal
Republic, the label that gave Prince a one-album deal for his latest disc,
“3121.”

But the record company has since shelved her solo album, and Tamar
now finds herself back in her Houston hometown when she’s not shuttling back
and forth between New York and former home base Los Angeles to record
another album.

Tamar tells Billboard that she was prepared for the roller coaster
ride that is the music industry, having read about similar hardships faced
by other artists like Anthony Hamilton, Alicia Keys and Ne-Yo.

I don't have anything negative to say, and I don't feel defeated,
she declares. I'm pushing forward.

As for Prince, she says they still talk, but she saw him for the first
time in six months at the Grammys. It’s all for the best, says Tamar.

It does hurt that I don't get to perform as much with him, she says.
But if I stay under his wing, I can't fly. And I'm ready to fly.

Tamar’s duet with Prince, “Beautiful, Loved and Blessed,” was
nominated for best RB performance by a duo or group with vocals, but lost
to Family Affair featuring John Legend and Joss Stone with Van Hunt.

It's an interesting thing to be nominated and yet be an unsigned
artist looking for a home, she said.

Luckily, Tamar owns the masters she recorded for Universal Republic,
and plans to tweak them a bit before carrying them over to her new album.

The last album was all live, and I didn't get the DJ Scratch feel on
some of the songs I wanted to, she says. This album is more
RB/hip-hop/funky with a Tina Turner vibe. But it's still very melodic.

Whether Prince will appear on the new album remains a question. He
will probably be on here somewhere. It's a good mystery that I'm keeping,
Tamar says.
