Try this

Dear Qasim,

you are right. The problem seems to be related to the gcc version.
Fortunately there is a patch. The instructions can be found at
http://mailman.isi.edu/pipermail/ns-users/2006-May/055811.html in case
you want to fix your friend's NS2 installation some time.

Thank you very much.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone

I have a problem installing NS 2.29 all in one version in the CYGWIN

cygwin runs without a problem
However when running ./install i get this problem after about a minute

Tcl is not part of the ns project. Please see

I would be grateful if anyone could help me resolving this problem

Re: [ns] Values to be set in the TCL file to make the transmission range 100m

2006-04-12 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Hi Jeevash

There are two method to do it.

Method a)
You calculate the RxThreshold using a small program written in C called
threshold.cc locayed in the folder ns-2.29/indep-utils/propogation/

compile the file as g++ threshold.cc

then run the program /a.out with the required distance you want to transmit.

In this case the transmit power remains the same as 0.2818 (default 250m)
and also the Carrier Sense Threshold (CSThresh) will remain 550+ but the
nodes that are 100+ meter away will drop the packages that they receive
considering it an error.

Method b) You only change the Pt_ value to 7.214e-3 , This will set the
maximum transmission range of the node to 100m.

so you can choose which option you want to go for

I hope this helps

Re: [ns] energy model in ns

2006-04-04 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Hi Amrutha

At the moment the sleep cycle is only implemented in SMAC protocol used in
wireless sensor networks. The 802.11 or any other protocol do not have
sleep cycle (anyone correct me if I am wrong).
also the energy is decreased for units/second. e.g if your transmit energy
is set to 5, then for total transmission for a second/ 5 units will be
deducted. these deduction can contribute from MAC/RTS/CTS or any other
message being transmitted.
I have not used TCP, so I could not answer the seconf question

If you run th esame simulaton and only change the mac layer to 802_11, you
will see, it saves between 100-200% energy

[ns] question regarding ARP and IFQ and dropped packets

2006-03-07 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Dear All

While running the MyTest.tcl script I dont understand why there are so
many packets dropped by (seen the reason in below trace file). Is that
because SMAC
uses DumbAgent protocol in this example, so the ARP hold the packet, and
waits for the destination address, and if another packet destined for the
same destination arrives, it discards the earliar packet.
Question 1: does that mean that packet reaches its destination, it this
case from node 0 to node 1:

Question 2: Does this effect the throughput?

Your Help is very much appreciated

Re: [ns] simulating CAN in ns2

2006-02-10 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

I know Controller Area network is a totally different protocol from
802.11, which composes of one or two wires for sending data with the
maximum data rate of 1 MHz
I have not seen CAN using a wireless protocol, even though I have worked
on CAN using optical fibres
Nor have I seen CAN protocol implementation in NS2. However to simulate
CAN you will have to right your own simple protocol module

The research paper linked below recently did some work based on CAN
network using NS2

[ns] Advice about each node having a different CSThresh , RXthresh and Pt_ for each wirless node

2006-02-02 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Dear All

I am trying to create a scenario with few wireless nodes. Each node has to
have a different Transmit power CSThresh and RxThresh, so as to obtain
different ranges of transmission and reception.

The question I need to ask is, Is this possible via tcl, where I declare
each node and then set its range CSThresh, RXThresh etc ? or am I going on
a wild goose chase.

AS from what I have understood, These values are set at the beginning of a
TCL script and the same values apply to all the wireless nodes. But I am
sure there has to be a way?

Any type of advice on how this is "possible" or "not" will very much be
appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

The problem is that I can't find any handle to the energy of the mobile

[ns] Difference between DumbAgent and DSDV

2006-01-04 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Dear All

Happy New Year, I Hope you all had great holidays.

I wanted to enquire what is the difference between DumbAgent protocol and
DSDV (I know about DSDV as mentioned in NS2 manual.

DumbAgent is applied in the example MyTest.TCL, an online example for smac
users

Another thing I needed to know if MyTest.tcl applies the motes version of
parameters for routing etc, and Tiny OS parameters for bandwith and other
calculations

Also in the example it has two lines as follow

#set opt(mac)Mac/802_11 ;# MAC type
set opt(mac)Mac/SMAC ;# MAC type

this means that smac is applied in calculations.
However if I rem out Mac/SMAC and leave Mac/802_11 only. Would this apply
802.11 protocol for the motes using DumbAgent.

I would be very much grateful for answer to any or all questions mentioned
above

Re: [ns] [Fwd: Re: ns2 installation question...]

2006-01-01 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Happy new year

I hope you have done the install program of NS2 and I assume it went
correctly.

and you have also done the validation test.

Step 1: Just to test NS2, copy the example2.tcl in directory ns2.29 from
cygwin/home/zalshaae/ns-allinone-2.29/ns-2.29/ns-tutorial/examples then
run
ns example2.tcl. If NS is installed properly, then it should compile.

Step 2: I have attached the .bashrc file from my cygwin environment on
windows XP.

Have a look and either replace it in your cygwin/home/zalshaae/ directory
or copy the relevant line

Answer to Question

NS2 has it own TCL and works equally well under windows and linux. I have
NS-allinone-2.29.2.tar.gz installed on windows XP and also on Suse linux
10.
All you have to make sure is that you you have the development tools
installed eg make, gcc, g++ perl patch and so on.

I always follow the steps given on this website and used it for installing
for both windows XP and Linux

http://140.116.72.80/~smallko/ns2/setup_en.htm

Apart from that good luck

[ns] Energy output

2005-12-25 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Dear all

I would be grateful if you could help me on how to get energy displayed as
shown in the article about energy model update in NS2.

e.g
[energy 979.917000 ei 20.074 es 0.000 et 0.003 er 0.006]

The meaning of each item is as follows:
 energy: total remaining energy
ei: energy consumption in IDLE state
es: energy consumption in SLEEP state
et: energy consumed in transmitting packets
er: energy consumed in receiving packets

at the moment i am getting something like this by running the MyTest.tcl
script

s 17.22100 _0_ MAC --- 0 SYNC 9 [0.12 0 0] [energy 1000.00]
N -t 17.221000 -n 1 -e 982.776000

--- [0:0 1:0 32 0] [3] 0 0
D 21.704249539 _0_ IFQ ARP 2 cbr 512 [0.00 0 0] [energy 979.917000]

s 32.98100 _1_ MAC --- 0 SYNC 9 [0.12 1 0] [energy 979.917000]

I cannot see the complete energy breakdown.

Your help is very much appreciated

Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year

Re: [ns] why node 3 is not define?

2005-12-23 Thread Qasim Raza Iqbal

Hi,

I also have that problem, infact in my case when running nam for a similar
scenario, it shows me node 0,1,2 and 3 a not defined until they actually
start the movement.

Another think which I need to ask you is that why have you attached the
same tcp to node 0 2 and 4 and sink to node 1 and 3. Can you use the same
agent on different nodes? Is that a requirement for the channel to work
properly or your just testing to see it works

Please let me know

regards

Qasim Iqbal
