[NSP] Salisbury Piping Day 2011
Salisbury Northumbrian Piping Day 2011 will be held at Idmiston Memorial Hall on Saturday 18th June from 10am - 5pm. All pipers are welcome for an informal day of piping and playarounds. Bring and share buffet, or there is a pub nearby. Small contribution towards hall hire requested (likely to be approx pounds 4). Please note that the venue is actually in Porton (not Idmiston) Village, just off the A338 five miles north of Salisbury; adjacent to Porton Garden/Aquatic Centre (follow signs from A338). [NSP] Piping Day near Salisbury, Wilts, May 15th
Dear Piper A reminder that Salisbury Pipers are holding their fifth annual Piping Day on Saturday May 15th. The venue is, as usual, Idmiston Memorial Hall in Porton Village, 6m north of Salisbury, Wilts, just off the A338 (near the Aquatic/Garden Centre). The day of informal piping lasts from 10am-5pm and this year will include an optional workshop, led by Eric Franklin, on pipes maintenance. It's great fun - why not come along? Lunch is 'bring and share' buffet (or adjourn to the nearby Porton Hotel). Cost depends on the number of participants but is likely to be -L-2-3 towards the hire of the hall. It's helpful to bring along the usual NPS tunebooks and folios, and a music stand. If you are planning to join us, it would be most helpful for estimating numbers if you could contact me off list. Many thanks. Salisbury Piping Day is held in memory of Jim Bryan, NPS President 2006-2009.Further details: contact Ian Curr off list [1]i.c...@ntlworld.com Ian Curr -- References 1. mailto:i.c...@ntlworld.com To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
[NSP] President's Day, May 16th, Salisbury
Just a reminder that the President's Day in Salisbury is going ahead, as Jim Bryan had planned it, and in honour of his memory, on Saturday May 16th. It will take place at Idmiston Memorial Hall in Porton Village, 6m north of Salisbury, Wilts (UK), off the A338 main road. The hall is by the garden/aquatic centre, and there is ample parking. If you intend to come along, please bring a music stand, the usual books (1-3, duet, folios, etc) and a contribution (in food) to the shared buffet lunch. The day will last from 10-5pm and the format will be informal, as Jim would have wanted. I can be contacted off list [1]i.c...@ntlworld.com to supply any further details. -- References 1. mailto:i.c...@ntlworld.com To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
[NSP] Jim Bryan
The Salisbury Journal has published an obituary for Jim in the current issue. You can find it on the web at [1]http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/4150242.Bagpipe_legend_dies_a t_77/ with a picture of him playing at home. The headline is Bagpipe Legend Dies at 77. I think Jim would have liked that! [NSP] funeral of Jim Bryan, NPS President
I would be grateful if pipers coming to Jim's funeral and intending to bring their pipes could let me know (contact me offlist, please, i.c...@ntlworld.com). There is going to be piping during the services, and there should be a chance for everyone to play in the period after the Church service; the Wiltshire group are working out a rota for this and we would like to make sure that all Jim's favourite tunes are played at some point. Just a reminder of the arrangements: Thursday 19th, 10.30 at the Crematorium, Salisbury, Wilts and 11.30 at St Mark's Church, Salisbury (both are on the London Road, near to the ring road. SP1 3DH for the Church; for crematorium come off roundabout keeping the Church on your left; continue 1/4 mile to traffic lights and turn left - entrance is on your left). There will be some tea/sherry and something to eat afterwards in the church. He had not been well for some time. No further details are available at present but obviously our first thoughts are with Marian and their family. Please feel free to pass this on to other players you may know who do not read this list. Julia Say NPS Hon Sec.
