Good news, but I would welcome a (speed review) compared to 7.0.8 before
I go through the trouble of installing the package. So, if anybody is
using it and is willing to share some experiences, that would be much
appreciated.

Best wishes,
Taco

ConTeXt has \colonequals and \coloncolonequals. I assume one of
those is the one you want.

The symbol is called \colonequals. Other colon symbols are (from
math-ext.tex)

%D \macros
%D {centercolon, colonminus, minuscolon, colonequals, equalscolon,
%Dcolonapprox, approxcolon, colonsim, simcolon, coloncolon,
%Dcoloncolonminus, minuscoloncolon, coloncolonequals,
%Dequalscoloncolon, coloncolonapprox, approxcoloncolon,
%Dcolonsim, simcoloncolon}
%D
%D In $a := b$ the colon is not vertically centered with the equal
%D to. Also the distance between colon and equal to is a bit large.
%D So, we define a vertically centered colon \tex {centercolon} and
%D a few macros for colon and double colon relation symbols.
%D
%D \startlines
%D \formula {A \centercolon   B}
%D \formula {A \colonminusB}
%D \formula {A \minuscolonB}
%D \formula {A \colonequals   B}
%D \formula {A \equalscolon   B}
%D \formula {A \colonapprox   B}
%D \formula {A \approxcolon   B}
%D \formula {A \colonsim  B}
%D \formula {A \simcolon  B}
%D \formula {A \coloncolonB}
%D \formula {A \coloncolonminus   B}
%D \formula {A \minuscoloncolon   B}
%D \formula {A \coloncolonequals  B}
%D \formula {A \equalscoloncolon  B}
%D \formula {A \coloncolonapprox  B}
%D \formula {A \approxcoloncolon  B}
%D \formula {A \colonsim  B}
%D \formula {A \simcoloncolon B}
%D \stoplines

The naming is after colonequals.sty rather than mathtools.sty. I find
these names easier to remember, but if you want mathtools type names,
it is easy to create aliases by \let\coloneqq=\colonequals and so on.

Perhaps it is time to create a comprehensive math symbol list for
ConTeXt also

[NTG-context] \coloneqq

2007-09-14 Thread Jesse Alama
I'd like to use a colon-equals sign symbol to indicate a definition.
According to The Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List, this symbol is
available in the txfonts (LaTeX) package. However, it seems that the
txfonts support in ConTeXt doesn't contain that symbol. And, in any
case, a search for \coloneqq on the wiki gave no results. Perhaps the
symbol I want isn't called coloneqq in ConTeXt, or perhaps the symbol is
currently missing. How can I get this symbol in my ConTeXt document?

Thanks for your help,

Jesse

Great! This works perfect and seems much easier to write than the old
code, though I still have no idea how to implement some parts of it:
- where to plug in the entities such as  , ≤, ...
- how to catch classes: how to differentiate between title
and title
- and some more - there are some simple examples in the attachment
(too long to copy-paste)

Thanks again,
Mojca

Why is it not possible to use palatino? The font is installed by

There even is a package for luatex (0.11.0-1, in unstable):

OK, I serached a bit and the downloaded and installed the
TeXLive-2007-Dev

from http://tug.org/mactex/morepackages.html. It's the september 2007
package.

The stretching problem was solved even without updating via

ctxtools --updatecontext

But I did it the same, then I did
texexec --make --all
texexec --make --all --xetex

ConTeXt works but it doesn't change anything with respect to the:

| ** WARNING ** Invalid CMap

message (which makes the compilation fail in the case of my
photoBooklet).

Any hints?

Re: [NTG-context] XeTeX after ctxtools

2007-09-14 Thread Andrea Valle

Brief investigation and summary:

After
1. updating with macTeX package on macOSX 10.4.9
2. even if I have update ConTeXt and regenerate formats (all, also
with xetex)

my normal ConTeXt (texexec) is ok, my XeConTeX (texexec --xtx) is
broken

This is a test code (saved as utf-8)

\enableregime[utf]
\setuppapersize[S6][S6]
%\setupbodyfont[ss, 12pt]
\definetypeface[Optima][rm][Xserif][Optima]
\setupbodyfont[Optima]

\starttext

Here I'm working, with all you need: \crlf
òîèéàùç

Don't uncomment this

%\startitemize
%\item a malicious item
%\stopitemize

or this:
%$\to$
\stoptext

Uncommenting makes compilation fail with:

** WARNING ** Invalid CMap
** ERROR ** pdf_ref_obj(): passed invalid object.

Output file removed.

(More, XeTeX is still slow)

tested also from terminal

- i'll make a table mapper (need it anyway), cals tables are already
provided

- idem for preformatted and verbatim

- your code:

d[k] = dk:gsub(" ",' ')
dk = d[k]
d[k] = dk:gsub("≤", '\\mathematics{\\le}')

local dk = d[k]
dk = dk:gsub(" ",' ')
dk = dk:gsub("≤", '\\mathematics{\\le}')
d[k] = dk

or

mojcasentities = {
nbsp = " ",
le   = "'\\mathematics{\\le}'
}

local d[k]= d[k]:gsub("&(.-);",mojcasentities)

(there probably already is code for that)

Hi Andrea,

you have to generate extra formats for XeTeX, you should type
texexec --make --all --xetex before you can run ConTeXt.

Wow! Interesting.

If you have LaTeX already running, it probably comes with binaries as
well. It might be enough to have pdfTeX and mpost available (perhaps
also kpse[something]).

Then you take justtex.zip, and, say, linuxtex.zip and unzip both. In
texmf-linux/bin you have different programs, but most of them are
either scripts which should work fine, or programs you probably won't
need anyway (afm2tfm, afm2pl, dvipdfmx, dvipos etc.) Copy pdftex and
mpost (and kpse* just to be sure) from your latex distribution into
that binary folder.

You might need to adapt "setuptex" script a bit (it does some
automatic recognition of platform etc.), but apart from that, running
. setuptex
should than work as on any other platform (unless ...).

Note that the distribution is almost 300 MB, but most of it is taken
by "old-font-junk". If you don't need any special fonts, you can
simply delete everything inside texmf-*/fonts/tfm/* (except
public/lm), as well as most other folders inside fonts.

You can also try to compile LuaTeX from sources, but there's no
guarantee that it will work. If it compiles without problems, feel
free to ask again how to install it (in that case you can delete even
more files from the minimal tree).

Great! Do you still experience any speed problems now? (I have a
feeling that Hans has removed dependency on ImageMagic, but I didn't
try to uninstall it to check if that was true.)

I also need to apologise for blaming ConTeXt for wrong stretching of
included figures (I had some problems with figures in XeTeX in ConTeXt
already before, so I falsely assumed that it was "yet another one in
the series"). It turned out it has been a XeTeX bug, which popped up
only for some very specific kind of pictures and only in xdvipdfmx ...

[NTG-context] CompleteListOfFigures Question?

2007-09-14 Thread G.C.H.M. Verhaag
  Dear ConTeXt Users,

Currently I'm struggling with the completelistoffigures command! I'd
like to generate a list of figures that only have a caption description,
but no (\setupcaptions[...,number=no,]) number.

My current setup only generates the title Figures of the list of
figures, that's it. However, when I change the number option of the
setupcaptions command to yes, the list is generated correctly. But
that's not what I want!

Is there a way to accomplish the desired effect using the
completelistoffigures command?

Thanks!

Regards,
Gerard

Hi Andrea,

you have to generate extra formats for XeTeX, you should type
texexec --make --all --xetex before you can run ConTeXt.

texec --check

I've made also:
texexec --make --all

(and nothing more)

While using texexec I'm having no problem.
ConTeXt  ver: 2007.09.13 21:15 MKII  fmt: 2007.9.14  int: english/
english

But with the --xtx flag texexec is now raising a fatal error now:

The most likely cause is that it is not changed at all, but that
texmf.cnf is not found, so you get the compile-time default.

Yes, just add the system font directory to the proper variable
(porbably OPENTYPEFONTS, but perhaps OTFFONTS, I don't remember
which one). I have here:

OSFONTDIR=/usr/share/fonts/OTF
OPENTYPEFONTS=.;$TEXMF/fonts/data//;$TEXMF/fonts/opentype//;$OSFONTDIR;./fonts//

and that works fine.
