 My problems is: What is out of topic in this mailing list ? :)

Because the problem was about installing GHC (an Haskell compiler) on
osX
with macports tool.
Haskel language is requested as a dependancy for Pandoc.
Pandoc could be use has an intermediate tool for converting
some docbook to ConTeXt...
... so Very many link, before ConTeXt topic...
... and very numerous dependancy for an intermediate tools such pandoc
... which seems more difficult to install than ConTeXt itself
... ConTeXt, which could probably do the xml work by itself :-)

So problem about install pandoc on macos could be followup to
http://groups.google.com/group/pandoc-discuss/browse_thread/thread/d16f2ba3198525be
(seems not to solved even the last sudo port sync)

ConTeXt should use normally use LauTeX by itself for the file because the first
line in the file is % engine=luatex, you could call process the file with
texexec --lua myfile and LuaTeX will be used because of the lua parameter.

You could test it with a example file, place the following lines in a
file test.tex

% engine=luatex
\starttext
Text
\stoptext

and process it with texexec test and take a look at the document proferences,
the field PDF-Producer should contain something like luaTeX-0.25.3.

no no, there was a misunderstand.
What I mean is : it' very hard to define that a subject if off topic

[NTG-context] xml question

2008-06-06 Thread Wolfgang Schuster
Hi,

I played with a little bit with the docbook syntax and came to a
problem with headers.

The text for chapter headers is written between the title elements, to
get the text I use
the \xmlfirst command but this did not prevent the text in the element
to appear again
in the normal document text. As a workaround I introduced the
\ifheading to flush the
content only in chapter headers, is there a better way to do this?

It is also possible to place the title elements outside of the chapter
group where it
is used as a header by itself, I did this now by another test
\ifchapter where I test if
it called within a chapter or not but a better solution is welcome.

My last question is what I the preferef method to define entities in MkIV,
\defineXMLentity is a MkII command and did not fit in the MkIV
xmlsetup commands.

\startbuffer[test]

[NTG-context] Labelling figures

2008-06-06 Thread Wolfgang Schuster
Hi,

what is the best method to add labels to a figure; I want them not only on
the figure but their position should be relative to the figure size.

I tried start/stopfigure (mentioned as outdated in the source) but the label
is not shown.

\setupexternalfigures[location={local,global,default}]

\starttext

\startfigure[kuh][cow]
\referring(1,1)(1,1)[r:horn]
\stopfigure

\externalfigure[kuh]

\stoptext

After this I tried collector and got with a little extra and a box and to dimens
what I wanted but it's not very elegant.

\setupexternalfigures[location={local,global,default}]

\starttext

\newbox\labelbox \setbox\labelbox\hbox{\externalfigure[cow]}

\newdimen\labelwidth  \labelwidth \wd\labelbox
\newdimen\labelheight \labelheight\ht\labelbox

\definecollector[label][state=repeat]

\setcollector[label]{\box\labelbox}

\setcollector[label][x=.65\labelwidth,y=.75\labelheight]{udder}

\placefigure
  {A labelled cow}
  {\flushcollector[label]}

\stoptext

Figurelabel as described in the label manual [1] seem to be the perfect
solution but the module was finished :-(

Is there not better way to achieve what I want and do I have to live with
my second method or could I hope for the future.

indeed, which is why we want to keep luatex as minimal a possible; there
is now support for sockets so one can do fancy things but the main
reason for sockets being there is not that one can then build webservers

You should just be able to drop in the math code as such:

\starttext
This is an example of the $\le$ operator.
\stoptext

You will get the proper encoding from the PDF generated.

You could theoretically do:

\def\LE{$\le$}

\starttext
This is an example of the \LE\ operator.
\stoptext

The reason why this is so is because the operators are designed to look
like proper math typesetting, what usually does not happen in many
situations with normal text. TeX was DEK's solution to typesetting
mathematically-oriented books and he would be unlikely to introduce a
counter-intuitive concept.

 Hello,

 Just as the signs , , + and −, it would be nice if also other signs such
 as ≤ (less-than or equal to, 2264) or ⇒ (rightwards double arrow, 21D2)
 worked in text mode and not only in math mode.
