The package has what Latin Modern lacks, support for cyrillic and the Concrete and CM Bright fonts in OpenType format. I understand from these messages I may look forward to implementation of searching for "thefile.tex" and then for "thefile" in the next update. Appreciate that very much. It is not for compatibility alone, I was asking. I have a great many files that are used in another context then ConTeXt, but are included in a typeset document collection. Giving them a .tex suffix would obfuscate their original character. I figured the usage from the source and trial and error. i wrote it when it was just available bug bugged in the viewer so it never made it into some myway since i never used it except from demos is the functionality supposed to work in MKIV now? That is the value that initex initializes it to (that explains mkii).
