Because the distribution copies whatver is present in

to update the contents of texmf-mswin\bin if you want to test.

[NTG-context] latest beta and file mismatch problem

2009-12-01 Thread Bowen Alan C.
I have just installed the latest beta (minimals) and updated my .bash_profile

. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex
/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin

When I try to compile any file, I get:

FatalError : Your format does not match the base files!

How do I fix this? (texexec --make --all did not do the trick.)

Isn't this just a compiler switch? Would be helpful as I am calling

However, wiping out all supplemental cygwin copies did not address the

thanks for your reply, but i would like to have it done automatically,
not by hand; something like a switch for parentheses mode.
also i´m not sure if those \big( parentheses vary their size according
to what they surround, so i should have asked for parentheses with
sizing based on level of nesting AND what´s inside.

[NTG-context] path juggling in mtxrun or my bad carma again?

2009-12-01 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Hello,

I have one version of gnuplot in ~/bin/gnuplot (the one with support
for context terminal) and one in /opt/local/bin/gnuplot. My PATH is
set to

~/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/texbin:/usr/X11/bin
inside
.bash_profile

The problem is that now mtxrun calls the second gnuplot in
/opt/local/bin/gnuplot and complains about missing context terminal.
If I run gnuplot from the same shell it works fine and calls the right
gnuplot. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Thanks,

Yes. There is a small bit of danger in the value -2pt, though:
at smaller pointsizes you may skip over an intermediate size.
Any negative value will do, so \delimitershortfall=-1sp is
better than -2pt.

I have no idea who inserted the quotation marks here (and why). If I
remove the quotation marks then it works without a problem. But I have

[NTG-context] About \version[temporary]

2009-12-01 Thread Otared Kavian

Hi all,

I have a question which can be elementary, but nevertheless it has some
importance…
When using cross references, one can somehow « visualize » the list of the
cross references on each page with the command
\version[temporary]

However, in mkii at least, the list of the references is placed at the top of
the page in the right margin and this is not very convenient when proof
reading, especially in mathematical articles. It would be more handy to have
each reference in the left (or right) margin of the line where it is defined or
where it is invoked with the command « \in ». However I didn't manage to
understand how this behaviour can be changed (various attempts with
\setuplist[references] had no effect).
(By the way, in mkiv, the list is not shown).

Can anyone give an insight?

[NTG-context] url breaking

2009-12-01 Thread Mohamed Bana
Hi all,

a) I've reported this before; I ca1n't seem to wrap long URLs across lines
in XeTeX

If I do this in LuaTeX it seems to work fine.

\useURL[doilink][http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/32.689404][][\hyphenatedurl{
http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/32.689404}]

But with XeTeX it insists on overflowing into the margins or into another
column. Does anyone have a workaround?

In this latest version I don't even need the \hyphenatedurl macro :).

b) And please, guys, will you just include a macro that will take a URL as

\from[doilink]

is just unnecessary. I'm thinking \typeurl[url], that's it.

c) Is there something wrong with using \footnote{text} whilst in a
column?

I can send the full example off-list. Just ping me.

Thank you,

I should add that when my .bash_profile has
. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/
I cannot compile any file because of the mismatch between format and base files.

If I change my .bash_profile to
. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex
/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin
as suggested in
When you want to use context, you need to initialize the tree by typing:
  . /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex
in your shell or add
  /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin
to PATH variable if you want to set it permanently.
This can usually be done in .bashrc, .bash_profile
(or whatever file is used to initialize your shell).
I get the error message
The argument /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin is not a
valid TEXROOT path.
(There is no file

Hi Alan,

If you are running Mac OS X 10.6.1 or later, the right folder (or directory) is
ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin

In any case you can test this just by changing the name of either of the
folders and try to typeset a file (you can change the name of the folder for
example in the Finder). Do you use TeXShop or any other GUI application?

A last point: at the beginning of the ConTeXt minimals, at one point I
installed the minimals in the /Application/ folder (directory) but had
constantly problems due to the rights of writing and executing, I think. Now I
have the Minimals in another place and everything works fine.

Good luck!

Hi Alan,

It doesn't matter if first-setup.sh, or setuptex, whichever, installs two
directories
/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin
and
/tex/texmf-osx-intel/bin
in the folder where you have first-setup.sh. As far as I am concerned, running
Mac OS X 10.6.2, I even removed manually the folder /tex/texmf-osx-intel/bin,
and everything works fine.

Something which seems strange to me is the line you have in your .bash_profile
which has:
. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/

this seems unorthodox… In any case this
/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/
should not be there and you should remove it.

In order to locate the problem, you may remove this line and then in a Terminal
window issue the command:
source /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex
(Using source is better than the. in my humble opinion).
Next issue the command
which context
in order to see what binary context is going to be executed when you typeset a
file.
Finally, assuming that you have the right context binary, typeset a test file,
named for instance myfile.tex, by issuing the command:
context myfile.tex
in the directory where myfile.tex is present.

Good luck: OK

Hi Joshua,

There we use the following chain:
- Edit UML diagrams with bouml (a really really great tool to design and
  for reverse engineering… )
- Export to SVG (take care of the font with qt-config if you want some
  consistency within your final pdf)
- SVG to PDF conversion with inkscape (command line + fonts embedding
  option if needed)
- just use the PDF as another external figure…

I'll check tomorrow if I have succeeded to optimize the fonts embedding
(this point has annoyed me a lot)…

From my POV, MetaUML is not adapted to a real production environment
(except at pure design stage)…

Worth give à try to bouml - pdf
Your UML diagrams should look great with a few bouml/fonts/qt-config
configuration.

maybe im doing something wrong here. i have this expression

 k}_i}\left( y \right)} \right){ \oplus _{C}}\left( {\beta { \odot
 _{C}}{{\tilde k}_i}\left( z \right)} \right)} \right){ \odot _Y}{u_i}}
 \right)}
 \stopformula

and the first 3 parentheses have the same size. i would like the outer to be
bigger than the inner, like in the attached image (i hope attachments work).
a bit ot..
It sounds to me like a hint:
is the third parentheses necessary ?

it wörks nit, but

That's because the none ended up between the wrong parentheses; when
you do not want captions while using \placefigure, write none in the
spot where the caption would normally be:

\placefigure
[...]
{none} %no caption
{\externalfigure[...]}

This works, at least in older versions of ConTeXt. I've got a few
figures where it is used, this way I can be certain that the figure
placement etc. is consistent all over.

It works in combinations, too; in the following example I combine three
figures on one row. The whole combination does have a caption, but the
individual figures in the combination do not - so if you look at the
final pdf, this looks like any single figure with one caption underneath.

\placefigure
[here] % placement
[fig:nameplates] % reference
{IA sensor nameplates} % caption for whole group
{
\startcombination[3*1] % 3 columns, 1 row
{\externalfigure[sanitary ia]} {none}
{\externalfigure[general ia]} {none}
{\externalfigure[aggressive ia]} {none}
\stopcombination
} % whole combination in braces of placefigure

Mari
