Re: [NTG-context] bibliography authoryears problem

2009-12-04 Thread Taco Hoekwater

Hi,

Michael Green wrote:
When using refcommand=authoryears and Mk IV the first reference is
 formatted incorrectly.

There is the left parenthesis, then a line break, then the rest of the
reference followed by the right parenthesis.

Here is the cause: the first \cite in mkiv internally runs
\usepublications[\jobname]. This inputs bib-test.bbl, which
contains a \par, and that is where the new line comes from.

A workaround is to add

   \usepublications[\jobname]

in the document preamble.

It works in mkii because in mkii, that command is executed at
\starttext.

For Hans: perhaps \usemodule[bib] should run the command? I know that
is supposed to be obsolete, but I assume you do not want to use the
odd logic from mkii in mkiv.

Best wishes,
Taco

\setnumber[PC]{1}\getnumber[PC]
\incrementnumber[PC]\getnumber[PC]
\incrementnumber[PC]\getnumber[PC]

Without \chapter I get: 0 1 2 3
With \chapter: 0 1 1 2

by default counters are reset per chapter and incrementnumber does
the check

Hmm. But isn't it wrong to reset a counter who doesn't even exist
with chapter start? Why not do the same check with setnumber?

well, that's the way it is designed and it has been so for many years

you can also use:

\newcounter\MyCounter
\increment\MyCounter

show: \MyCounter

I forgot the details, but could probably find it out again. It should
be possible to use ssh tunnelling.

There is also
http://minimals.contextgarden.net/pragma/
but it's not updated too frequently (if there would be a demand, we
could update them more frequently).

But you need to fetch the whole tree each time when you want to update.

Is the file excluded in actual minimals?

  mtxrun --script server --auto

I tried to use this command under windows 2000 scite (console).
The process does not do anything obvious. I have killed it after

There should be a line like

 MTXrun | context services:
 http://localhost:31415/mtx-server-ctx-startup.lua

There is no output at all.

in the terminal, you can copy the link and use it in your browser to
 run texshow.

This works.
But this is blocking the scite-console, which I need for a couple of
other things.

Can I P L E A S E have my good old texshow.pl back?

Here is the cause: the first \cite in mkiv internally runs

It works in mkii because in mkii, that command is executed at

For Hans: perhaps \usemodule[bib] should run the command? I know that

why not \let\par\normalpar

actually i had that but then i was not sure if par might have been
redefined as a \cite command can occure anywhere; it's also why we
cannot use grouping ... or use

\startnointerference
\globaldefs\plusone

\stopnointerference

actually, it's not the \startpublication that is the problem as we can
add \ignorespaces at the end, or use tricks that need grouping as they
are defined global anyway, but it's the \setuppublciations in the bbl
file that interferes

I looked into this for a bit, and decided not to attempt to fix
the handling of such antiquated fonts, as it would really be quite
complex and there is a much easier fix: run the font through
fontforge to get a modern OTF that doesn't use the deprecated
'seac' operator.

Alternatively, there is a workaround:

  context --directives=fonts.embedall ...

we have this (in mkii):

\def\dohyphenatedurlbefore#1{\discretionary{\hyphenatedurlseparator}{}{}\char#1\relax}%

if you change this to

\def\dohyphenatedurlbefore#1{\discretionary{!}{?}{*}\char#1\relax}%

you'll see that indeed something is inserted

so, something fishy in xetex; maybe a difference in disc handling due to
utf hyphenation? anyhow, we have to live with it

(so better use mkiv)

[NTG-context] Table macro choices?

2009-12-04 Thread Design Department
Earlier this year I attempted to set tabular material using ConTeXt while
meeting *all* the following requirements:
Some columns need fixed width, content must wrap to multiple lines
   Multi-page tables
Column headings must repeat on every page
Additional header information is required on every page
Additional footer information containing tabular text and graphics is
required on every page
Forced page breaks on arbitrary selected rows
Horizontal rules between specified groups of rows

I was unable to meet all these requirements and reverted to LaTeX. It works,
but I prefer ConTeXt and the LaTeX version takes a painfully long time to
converge on optimal column widths. I'm now using TeXLive 2009, rather than 2008
- has anything changed in ConTeXt that will meet these requirements?

  Can I P L E A S E have my good old texshow.pl back?

Not texshow but at least a overview over all documented commands:
 http://pragma-ade.com/download-5.htm

Is it possible to include a second XML-File (for the missing
commands) in the process which generates 'setup-en.pdf'? I don't like
to mix this.

With texshow there was an option to include an other second XML-File
with examples. Is this possible too?

I can't find a file 'texshow.pl' anymore at my context tree.
Is the file excluded in actual minimals?

 mtxrun --script server --auto

I tried to use this command under windows 2000 scite (console).
The process does not do anything obvious. I have killed it after some
 time.

There should be a line like

 MTXrun | context services: http://localhost:31415/mtx-server-ctx-startup.lua
I see the server up, but fonttest does an empty list even after extra
