[NTG-context] ConTeXt on MikTeX
Hello all, As I cannot use rsynch to update ConTeXt, I was wondering if the MikTeX distribution might provide an alternative route to getting updates. There are questions: 1) The Wiki page on MikTeX (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/MikTeX) still says it's broken. I presume this is out of date? 2) Does MKIV work in MikTeX? 3) How often will the MikTeX distribution be updated with a new ConTeXt? I guess I only need updating a couple of times a year, now that MKIV is looking pretty good. 4) Does TeXworks (which is part of MikTeX distribution) work with ConTeXt? 5) Any opinions or advice? To be more precise, there exists a so-called filter DruTeX (http://drupal.org/project/drutex) which can process LaTeX files for viewing them in a web page, but since my TeX files are written for ConTeXt, I wonder if there is a simple way to do the same in Drupal with ConTeXt. Or maybe I am going the wrong direction? Should I export through mkiv my TeX files to some other format than TeX for being understood by Drupal? Actually my documents are essentially one page each, without any complicated layout or graphics: there is only some text, and items within two or three sets of \startitemize, \stopitemize. But they do contain maths and I would like to have them on the web pages. You can use any TeX with any web application server, if you can execute a TeX binary (e.g. normally not in a shared hosting environment). Use your system's templating engine to produce ConTeXt files instead of HTML and run ConTeXt on them. Getting the paths right might be a major problem - it took me some weeks of debugging, since also my process supervision tools played a role. [NTG-context] TEI - conTeXt - pdf
All, Having abandoned apache's FOP, I've now been trying to get my arms around XML typesetting with conTeXt with the help of Thomas's excellent tutorial at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TEI_xml. With some difficulty I got the philostratus.xml/lorem ipsum example to work, save for errors like this from the \definemargins command: ! You can't use `\dimexpr' in restricted horizontal mode. (The marginal notations are typeset, but so are the distance arguments) What I really need help with, however, is Arabic. Can anyone point me to a 'hello world' example of how to typeset TEIxml in Arabic using conTeXt? My TeX skills are very out of date and were never much to begin with, and I'm having a devil of a time getting my head around the welter of available documentation. I haven't even yet worked out how to point context at suitable fonts, or how to invoke them in the --environment .tex file. [I'm using the MacTeX-2010 Distribution on OSX 10.5.8. It took me some time do discover that I had to do: $ luatools --generate before I could run context at the command line thus: $ context --environment=tei-style philostratus.xml] Any hints, examples, or pointers to the relevant documentation would be gratefully received. Re: [NTG-context] How to get \iint?
Hi. 2010/11/24 Aditya Mahajan adit...@umich.edu: On Wed, 24 Nov 2010, Vladimir Lomov wrote: Hi. The command \iint is defined in context (mkiv) but it doesn't produce the desired sign. What I should do to make it appear? (in log file I see that LMMath font desn't contain such symbol but I don't know much about font mechanism of context, btw in latex I could easily get that symbol so I think it should be in 'standard' math font). No, the symbol is not in the 'standard' math fonts, and this is trouble. Like LaTeX, we also fake the glyph in MkII. In MkIV, we check if the font contains that glyph; if not we fake it. Currently, that test is failing. A temporary workaround (for LM) is to redefine: \def\repeatintegral#1#2#3% {\let\dointlimits\donothing \let\dodointlimits\intlimits %\iffontchar\textfont\zerocount#1\relax % %\edef\dodorepeatintegral{\utfchar{#1}}% % \let\dodorepeatintegral#2% %\else \fakerepeatintegral{#3}% %\fi \futurelet\next\dorepeatintegral} and then \iint \iiint etc will work. Thank you for advice (I had to regenerate format to see the result, because I changed the definition in 'math-int.mkiv') but the result is terrible for inline math and normal for displaystyle. Moreover I found that this solution would give unexpected result if one use \setupmathematics[integral=displaylimits], consider the following example: example name=ex7_1.tex \setupmathematics[integral=displaylimits] \starttext Ordinary integral: $\int_{a}^{b}f(x)\text{d}x=F(b)-F(a)$. Ordinary integral: $\int\limits_{a}^{b}f(x)\text{d}x=F(b)-F(a)$. \startformula \int_{a}^{b}f(x)\text{d}x=F(b)-F(a). \stopformula Double integral: $\iint_{D} f(x,y) dx dy$ Double integral sign (faked symbol) could cause incorrect result: \startformula \iint_{D} f(x,y) \text{d}x \text{d} y \stopformula \stoptext /example (I didn't remember where exactly I found command \setupmathematics.) Hans, do you know what the \textfont check is not working for LM? The ideal solution is to add esint glyphs to the LM math virtual font. I did not work on this because I was assuming that opentype LM math will be out soon. But it seems that right now, the only decent opentype math font is Cambria. Both Stix and Asansa give really horrible spacing at times. IMHO, Cambria looks very odd.
