[NTG-context] Bug in \typo_paragraphs_setup_three.

2012-07-08 Thread Willi Egger
Hello!

I wanted to write a letter… Then it appeared that there is something wrong in
\typo_paragraphs_setup_three. The problem is present in todays beta (as was in
the previous version).
Please try the attached minimal example.

Thank you and kind regards

 line has a width of 10cm as it seems.

 \ruledhbox to 5cm{\stretched{to the limit}}
 means that the box has 5cm, but \stretched must use some horizontal size (i.e
 \hsize)
 to stretch the text. The twos are different lengths: it doesn't make much
 sense to strecth the text to the limit to its natural width (yes, it makes
 sense --- stretched is nil)
 try
 \ruledhbox to 5cm{\stretched{to the limit}}
 \ruledhbox to 5cm{\hsize=5cm\stretched{to the limit}}
 \ruledhbox to 5cm{\hsize=0cm\stretched{to the limit}}
 \ruledhbox{\stretched{to the limit}}
 \ruledhbox{\stretched[width=10cm]{to the limit}}

[NTG-context] modes + arranging

2012-07-08 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz

Hi all,

sorry for the slightly silly example, but it's something I can't figure
out, and it has worked before. For processing my documents, I have
defined a mode which will arrange pages. Here's the silly example test.tex:

\startmode[arranged]
\setuppapersize[A6][A4]

\setuparranging[2*4]

\stopmode

\setuppagenumbering[state=stop]

\starttext

\dorecurse{8}{\null\vfill\centerline\recurselevel\vfill\null\page}

\stoptext

When I process this with

context --mode=arranged test

I get the expected output. When I process it with

context --mode=arranged --arrange test

the pages are NOT arranged. I need the --arrange switch for my data, and
I don't understand what's going wrong here. Behavior is the same with
current beta and a slightly older version (06.30).

Thanks

Thomas

actually the lack of a parent chain one was a side effect of defining
\s!parent more efficiently (=) which interferes with assignments so I
reverted that

(I'll make a dedicated chain command.)

[NTG-context] setupbars

2012-07-08 Thread Meer, H. van der
This gives an error:

\starttext
\setupbars[rulethickness=4pt]
\stoptext

! LuaTeX error main ctx instance:1: malformed number near '4pt'.
ConTeXt  ver: 2012.07.04 23:48 MKIV  fmt: 2012.7.6  int: english/english

Elsewhere this is ok, as for example in: \framed[rulethickness=4pt]{}
Strangely in node-rul.mkiv I see: \c!rulethickness=2.5
whereas in pack-rul.mkiv:  \c!rulethickness=\linewidth

I am inclined to spot an error here, or at least an inconsistency in the API.

Re: [NTG-context] setupbars

2012-07-08 Thread Meer, H. van der
Thansk,

I see. \setupbars doesn't give a hit on ConTeXt-wiki, so I couldn't find this.
Still I dare say, it is a pity that [rulethickness=] gets a different meaning
here than elsewhere. I would like to ask to reconsider, because I strongly
believe in consistency in the API (though I am ready to admit that it is not
easy to maintain and confess guilty myself at more than one occasion). That is
either change all rulethickness's everywhere to this scheme or otherwise. Or
did this already happened and did I miss that? And of course, the easiest
solution would be if the code itself could sort out the difference between
having been given a fraction or a length.

[NTG-context] Page Backgrounds

2012-07-08 Thread Kip Warner
Hey list,

On the cover page of my book I'd like just an image displayed and
another image used as the background for every other page in the book.
So I put this in my environment,

% Cover image...
\definelayer
[CoverImage]
[x=0mm, y=0mm,
 \paperwidth,
 \paperheight]
\setupbackgrounds[page][background=CoverImage]

\setlayer
[CoverImage]% name of the layer
{\externalfigure
[Makeup/Images/Cover.jpg]
[align=center,
 \paperwidth,
 \paperheight]} % the actual contents of the layer

% Regular background image...
\definelayer
[BackgroundImage]
[x=0mm, y=0mm,
 \paperwidth,
 \paperheight,
 repeat=yes]

\setlayer
[BackgroundImage] % name of the layer
{\externalfigure
[Makeup/Images/Background.png]
[align=center,
 \paperwidth,
 \paperheight]} % the actual contents of the layer

, the following in the book's first page,

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=CoverImage]

, and the following on second page,

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=BackgroundImage]

. But this does not work properly. What ends up happening is the cover
image is displayed correctly, but every page after that just has a blank
white background.
