[NTG-context] Editor's Symbols?

2007-11-11 Thread Alex K
Hi all,

I'm pretty much a new user to ConTeXt and actually any form of TeX, so forgive
me if my question sounds ignorant. Is there any way to format editor's symbols
(like those used for demonstration in grammatical textbooks) in a block of text
using ConTeXt or LaTeX (preferably with the former)? If not, then does anyone
know how I might do this some other way besides actually writing it out by hand?

Thanks for your help!

Alex

Re: [NTG-context] Editor's Symbols?

2007-11-11 Thread Alex K
Here's an example:

http://www.colorado.edu/Publications/styleguide/symbols.html

I've seen these printed (not handwritten) in grammar guides, so I was wondering
if formatting them with TeX was possible at all.

Thanks,

Alex

Forgive me, but could you be more specific? Do you have any links to
examples of these symbols, etc.? Are they encoded in Unicode?

Re: [NTG-context] Fixing/Updating ConTeXt

2007-08-01 Thread Alex K
Thomas,

Better yet that it's only one step! Many thanks.

ConTeXt appears to be functioning normally again, but now my only problem is
with XeTeX... for some reason when I try to typeset files using it I get:

FatalError: Your format does not match the base files!

What went wrong here? Or should I ask this elsewhere?

Thanks again,

Alex

On the command-line:

sudo ctxtools --updatecontext

Is that steo-by-step enough?

Hans,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that and then tested:

texexec --xtx sample_file

but I still got the error. Is there a way to overwrite/update the installation
as I did with ConTeXt? If worse comes to worst, I'll look into reinstalling
XeTeX...

Thanks again for the help!

Re: [NTG-context] \setupheader: leftstyle rightstyle

2007-07-22 Thread Alex K
Hi,

Hope this isn't hijacking the thread, but I have a quick question related to
this and I'd thought I'd post it here instead of starting a whole new topic
about something similar. How do you center headers? I know that if you just use
one header, it's automatically centered, but if you use alternating headers,
they're left/right aligned by default... right?

So far I have a two-page spread set up so that the chapter appears on the right
header and the title of the text on the left, but neither are centered. Do I
use \midaligned, or am I on the wrong track?

Thanks.

 \setupheader: leftstyle rightstyle

 Hi, all--

I would like to use different styles for left and right headers in a
book: I would like to set the left side (which shows the book title) in
small caps, and the right side (chapter title) in italics.

\setupheader[style=\sc]

 works fine. So does

\setupheader[style=\it]

 But

\setupheader[leftstyle=\sc,rightstyle=\it]

Doesn't work. Both headers appear in the (medium-weight roman) body
font. Any idea why this is the case?

I usually use something like

\setuppagenumbering
[alternative=doublesided,location=bottom]
\setupheadertexts
[\sc Book Title][]
[][{\it
 (\getmarking[chapter][current])}]

However, there seems to be a little bug. This works perfectly well for
section (\getmarking[section]), but for chapter the chapter labels
seem to be erased after the first appearance.

leftstyle= might also require implementation of
- style of the left label on left page
- style of the middle label on the left page
- style of the right labale on the left page
- all the three styles again on the right page, the same 6 for footer

[NTG-context] Weird Problem

2007-07-19 Thread Alex K
Hi all,

I'm a complete newbie to ConTeXt (aka recent convert from a GUI world and
WYSIWYG typesetting), so please forgive my
ignorance. :) I'm having some problems typesetting a simple practice
document that used to compile fine before. Recently, after modifying
part of the text (not the code, which to the best of my knowledge
appears correct, since I haven't encountered any errors), I can no
longer see the title page, page numbers or headers, and paragraphs
don't indent as they used to, when they did before. Again, I didn't
change any of the code, at least AFAIK. Is this a bug, or just user error? Do I
need to update ConTeXt? If so, how? (if you could, please provide
step-by-step directions, as I'm a beginner to the command-line
interface as well, I'm afraid). I'm running the Jan 2007 version of ConTeXt
bundled with
the MacTeX 2007 distribution on Mac OS 10.4.10. I've also provided the sample
document
for reference, in case that helps. A prompt response would be highly
appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help.
