IBM's Sequoia supercomputer in June became the first U.S.-based system to reach
No. 1 on the Top500 list of the world's fastest supercomputers. Six months
later, the system-at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory-was moved to No. 2,
displaced by Cray's huge Titan supercomputer, housed at the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory in Tennessee. Titan, a massive XK7 system powered by Opteron
processors from Advanced Micro Devices and GPU accelerators from Nvidia, hit a
performance of 17.59 petaflops-or quadrillions of calculations per
second-outdistancing Sequoia's 16.32 petaflops.

When I first saw that list I was amazed by the features and then equally amazed
by how few are actually implemented, particularly on Windows Phone.

(Sorry :)

On a serious note, the lack of this has drove our company mad. We used to get
Notes sync via Good Messaging, but then they dropped it. ActiveSync STILL
doesn't do it. At this day in age, I find that insane. Not even Windows Phone
8 fully implemented their own AES protocol?!? Color me baffled.

For now, until Good brings Notes back to the clients, I've told my user to
stick with Springpad or Evernote for personal notes.

RE: Windows 8 "Microsoft" user accounts

Subject: Windows 8 "Microsoft" user accounts

Interesting stuff from an IT point of view about logging on to Windows 8
machines with Microsoft user accounts...

A Microsoft account on a Windows 8 computer is treated as a local user account.
By default, the account is added to the local Administrators group, which means
the Microsoft account has full control over the system's hardware and software.
Such a setup means that a Windows 8 computer essentially supports two
authentication models: the Web-based model that relies on the Microsoft account
and the Active Directory model that permits the computer to participate in the
Windows domain.

Hopefully there will be a way to turn the federated logon option off for
domain-joined computers?

RE: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Greg Olson
You beat me too it. It does and works very well. Touchdown is the app we tell
our Android users to buy when they have issues connecting to Exchange as it
seems every version of phones from venders can have a completely different
implementation of ActiveSync.

RE: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Sam Cayze
>>> What's the big killer features of Exchange Notes?

Wait for it
Notetaking!

Re: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Bill Humphries
the only "killer" feature is that notes sync to outlook in an exchange
environment. The notes themselves are just text. At some point, MS stopped
included notes as something that syncs using activesync. This very
frustarting for people who had blackberries or ancient windows mobile phones
that synced the notes.

I have the Nokia 920 on order with Rogers here in Toronto, all the reviews
I have read is that it’s big and heavy but other vice a great phone, I
also
use Notes quite extensively as well, for my iPad I use iMExchange2, for
the

free version I just have to manually updated it. For my current phone the
Samsung Galaxy S III, I have not bothered with Notes yet and now I’m
waiting for the Nokia so well see . .

RE: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Mike Hoffman
I've got an HTC x8 - upgraded from an HD7 and love it. Email is as you would
expect, and having lots of live tiles for different mailboxes on the main
screen is really useful. I tend to use tasks rather than notes and that works
for me - or else I use OneNote synced up with an O365 account / or box. You can
always use OneNote with a Hotmail account for storage. I also have an
outlook.com and about 5 other email accounts linked up :-)

RE: windows phone 8

Uhhh…Blackberry has been beat on enterprise email for a few years.

I am also thinking about the Nokia 920. The reviews look good. I am a
Blackberry user and have been for years, you cannot beat them for enterprise
mail. So one thing that use a lot is Exchange Notes, and it turns out that
Microsoft does not sync Notes. This is also the case for iPhone and android,
which is why I was looking at the Windows Phone. I find it hard to believe
that MS is not fully using ActiveSync on their device. I am not alone, as this
seems to be a be issue with Blackberry convertees. So far I have not been able
to find a way to get Notes on the phone without having to move them to OneNote,
which I do not want to separate that out.

And the consumer side of me is hesitant on a Windows Phone because of lack of
apps. I not one that wants much in the way of apps but the key areas I want
are not there. I use several banks and none of them have full apps like on
iPhone and android; I have Comcast and they have nothing on Windows phone; and
I have a young son that loves Disney and they only have apps on iPhone. From
the app side, iPhone has it all, but I am doing my best to resist drinking the
Kool-Aid.

Re: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Steve Ens
I thought the lack of apps was a killer too, but since the release of
Windows 8 (official), there have been many great apps released. That
wouldn't be the issue for me. I love my blackberry keyboard though and the
reduced activesync functionality on the Windows phone might be hurtful.

RE: windows phone 8

2012-11-15 Thread Senter, John

From
the app side, iPhone has it all, but I am doing my best to resist drinking the
Kool-Aid.

Might not be much out there yet as it’s a fairly new device but, what I’ve
heard has all been pretty positive if you like Windows Phones.

Thinking about getting the nokia 920. Anyone have any reasons they’d like to
share about why or why not to get this device. Also, real world how is the app
situation for winphone 8? Anything you really miss from the ios or android
world of apps and features?

All of the official reviews always seem to miss the real details that make or
break a phone for me.

Thanks.

Bill
