I second this, only ever use Hardware RAID, which RAID config
depends on what you are doing.

When interviewing folks for an open position at my last employer
we had someone say that they thought that software RAID was "slick",
that was the last thing he said that I heard.

I've seen this problem before but haven't learned how to fix it without
formatting yet. When replacing a motherboard in a Win2k (pro or server)
machine, Windows will not boot for the IDE controller is different from
the old motherboard, thus you get a blue screen that that error on it.
Does anyone know how to fix this w/o formatting?

drive mirror configuration with W2k

2001-08-24 Thread RE Young

Anyone have experience (and are willing to share it) with setting up a drive
mirror with W2k, it is quite different than NT.
Environment is :

1.2 GHz W2K Srv PDC, (2) WD 40GB drives, ATA-100 support is built into the
MB(Soyo).

White papers, How-tos are what I am looking for, what I have found so fare
has not been especially helpful.

The problem I am having is trying to get the second drive to mirror the
first drive, the OS is installed on Disk One as basic (it fails to boot if
I do a configuration upgrade of it). Disk two wants to setup Volumes,
Disk one wants to set up partitions.

Re: drive mirror configuration with W2k

Appreciate your response Kent,

The second drive has no trouble becoming dynamic,

The first drive (where MBR etc are located), fail to boot after I convert it
to dynamic.

How can the the drive be dynamic w/o first installing the OS.

BTW - (Hardware raid is not in the pocketbook for the rest of the fiscal
year.)

Right I know the manual method works, I need to
do the same thing in a batch file...I have tried "reg restore" and "regedit
/S" neither imported the file.

  use regedt32.

  Navigate to
  HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer and highlight
  configuration key.

Click on File, Import and select the dhcpcfg
  file

I have done this lots of times and the only
thing to be aware of is that the original and new machine are the same
  SP.

What I still want to know is :how to import that registry
filefromthe command line

"reg.exe" doesn't work with the DHCP registry
file

and neither does

regedit /s

In the article at Technet it describes a new utility called
  DHCPExIm.exe on the Win2K ResourceKit Supp. 1
Has anyone used this utility yet? I need to move my DHCP
also, and was wondering if this works

I think I used these instructions when I
did it.

http://www.jsiinc.com/subd/tip1600/rh1628.htm

I have done it once and it
worked, but like Kevin says, YMMV.

Rene

  There is a technet article.

Your Mileage May Vary, these are updated instructions since
I tried to do this about a year ago, it didn't work for a crap
  back then.

  Good luck,

GreatHave you tried it ?

I will rtry it, I wouldlike to know if that
method has worked for you ? If it does then it must have the same content as
DHCPs backup file.

Thanks !!!
Robert

You can't use that config file but you should be able to do a

  REG BACKUP
  HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Configurationdhcpconf.cfg
  \\source
   and then do
  REG RESTORE dhcpconf.cfg
  HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer\Configuration \\destination
