The plural of y’all is y’all. Your mistake was that you concatenated it
with a northernism. The proper phrase is

“Geez louise, cain’t y’all idjits evah git anythin’ rite?”

Subject:Resetting Domain Administrator password - Server 2008 R2

So i have an old set of servers as VMs. They had their own AD servers as
well, but no one remembers the logon or work here anymore.

I am trying to go through and reset the the domain administrator account
password. I have already blanked out the machine useraccount, so i can
reboot, F8, pick directory restore, and logon that way.

I'm using the srvany.exe method, using a complex password. It doesn't seem
to work. Anyone have luck with this in the past?

I'm following directions from here:
http://www.petri.co.il/reset_domain_admin_password_in_windows_server_2003_ad.htm

But i thought it was odd he had D:\temp\cmd.exe instead of
c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe... So i using Robert STrom's script file
instead and that looks good to me.

I've checked the registry setting for the service, looks good. Service
looks good, although i had to manually check that interactive option on
the Logon (2nd) tab.
But every time i boot this server up.. wait a few minutes. my new password
isn't taking. I wish i knew if there was some kind of error message or
something so i can see if there is am mistake somewhere.

or i'm open to other ideas on how to do this same thing.

-Ben

We are trying to decide whether to keep our Altiris server as a VM or
purchase a physical server. The reason why we’re looking at this is
because Symantec told us that our NAS storage is unsupported for this
application.

Is this something anyone else has ran into?

I really can’t see us sinking money into a physical server when our VM
infrastructure is plenty capable. I just want to hear more about what
others are doing if NAS isn’t an option, which is what our entire VM is
built on.

Thanks,

Folks,

enterprise applications uses pop-ups. In our standard-user GPO I set the
following:

User Configuration | Policies | Administrative Template | Windows
Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Security Page...
and from here I set the policy to be enabled with the pop-up blocker
disabled for all the zones.

What I am seeing is that this is not working. The pop-up blocker is still
turned on. gpresult shows the policy is applied. So am I applying this
incorrectly? Should I be using Machine instead of user? Other features
of the GPO work fine, however.

Thanks,

So I shut down a DC VM yesterday and go to turn it back on and get a hosed
ntoskrnl.exe upon boot. Great, another learning experience brought to you
by Tuesday, the new Monday. Restore the VM Backup from day before and
still have the error. So the virtual disk has been fragged for a while. I
try booting off install iso and restoring the file and get errors trying
to restore the corrupt file, so the disk is really in bad shape. Last
ditch effort I attach the virtual disk to another server and run chkdsk on
it. Viola, It finds a ton of file and index errors and fixes them.
Detach, power on DC and it boots up with no problem. So if I would have
done that in the first place it would have taken me an whole five minutes.
So the moral of the story is don't assume your backups are good. Even if
you can restore them, if you haven't booted them then you can't be sure,
what a pain.
