Looks like they have a limited freeware version that supports unlimited
computers but doesn't scan as many items.

Here's their propaganda blurb on why agentless doesn't work:

Komodo Labs - NEWT® Professional

"Network inventory has never been easier. While many competitors rely
exclusively on agentless methods crippled by remote registry and WMI
misconfiguration issues, slow operation (single threaded) or high
bandwidth usage (multithreaded), NEWT® Professional uses a sophisticated
light-weight (500KB) client automatically deployed to remote machines

Running something at the workstation is not "agentless" to my way of thinking.
It's also not licensed for business use.

I've been using Spiceworks now for 6 months on my largest client network. It
should do what you are asking. You have to open up some ports in the firewall,
and WMI needs to be running properly on the workstations being inventoried.

Systinternals' psinfo tool will get you a lot of the way there.

WMI scripting will get you a lot further, though.

See, for instance, this page:

I've been using mvPCInfo for about 3 years now and I'm pretty happy with it.
Executes from the login script. It creates a .xls file but has a viewer to
organize and view multiple systems.

I used to have Track-IT but got tired of the complexity and feature bloat.
