Yeah, this is sort of a "anyone using non-corporate standard software gets 
to enojy a new job search", which is certainly not unheard of (altho there 
should be warnings, etc, before dismissal. If they're threatening 
dismissal, they probably sent out warnings not to use non-standard 
software, and people didn't listen. Hence the perceived need for the axe

FWIW I much prefer Pegasus Mail == the "power user's" email client == to TBird.

In several states (including mine) threats like that are illegal and 
will result in stiff penalties from the Wage & Hour unit of the 
Department of Labor and Industry. Half the money goes to the employee 
filing the claim. I think they classify it as "creating a hostile work 
environment" or something like that.

I can understand not letting people use Outlook or Outlook Express.  
They should remove Outlook if they don't want it.  However, requiring 
people to use Eudora which is a dead product and still buggy in the last 
version is crazy.  As a former Eudora user I can say that when they went 
EOL I switched to Thunderbird because I wanted the bugs fixed.  The 
Eudora version build on Thunderbird is just wrong on so many levels.

That's a little harsh.

I've done pretty much the reverse, though. No IMAP/POP3 is enabled on
our Exchange. Pisses off about 4 people, out of 230, in our US office.
It'll piss off a few more when I move to that in our AU office.

I worked at a place that had a mandatory font. Never mind it was a font that no 
one else in the world had so when you emailed or sent documents it didn't 
display the font because the recipient didn't have this oddball font you had to 
use it for everything and I had to make sure it got installed on all new 
machines.I tried to tell them but they just didn't seem to care.

So yes, I believe your story :)  Do you by any chance work in an advertising 
agency :), maybe you have my old job!

I do understand the logic behind standardizing on certain products.
Can't said I'd choose Eudora over Outlook, though.

 

Is the issue that they don't want users sending HTML-formatted messages?
If so, that can easily be configured for Outlook using Group Policy.

Get fired for using outlook

So... management does not like the fact the some people use Outlook... because 
the formatting looks different and some other BS.

Now... management has sent a memo out (for everybody to sign) stating that 
Outlook is not to be used and Eudora it the only allowed email client.  Those 
the violate the memo will be terminated.

Believe that???
