Is there a freeware app that can create PDFs, similar to the way one
does
with Adobe Acrobat, but with fewer bugs? :-) I like SumatraPDF that
someone
suggested on this list awhile back, and I got to wondering if there were
something similar for creating PDF documents. Of course, I know
OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to
create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

I have been doing that out of Excel for years, no need for anything else.
Excel had this availability since 2007, I think there was an addin for 2003
that allowed Excel and word to directly save as PDF.

Actually, that's perfect for most of our needs... otherwise why have a PDF?
:-) MOST stuff that we convert to PDF doesn't need to have active links,
etc. For example, we use Excel for purchase orders. Wouldn't do to have
those be changeable, so we convert to PDF to send out.

That is something that is specific to different PDF printers. I've seen
the built-in Office 2007 PDF printer do that, but very rarely with the
freeware (or even paid) third-party PDF printers.

Is there a freeware app that can create PDFs, similar to the way one does
with Adobe Acrobat, but with fewer bugs? :-) I like SumatraPDF that someone
suggested on this list awhile back, and I got to wondering if there were
something similar for creating PDF documents. Of course, I know OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

RE: Freeware PDF creator?

2010-11-11 Thread Rod Trent
I believe it was Office 2007 that started the PDF integration. Microsoft
had it included in Office 2007 betas, Adobe whimpered, Microsoft took it out
of RTM, but then release it as an add-on. Office 2010 does a great job at
it - almost flawless, except for TOC bookmarks.

What's the earliest version of Word that does this? Also, what about Excel
spreadsheets? :-) Not meaning to be a contrarian or anything, but sometimes
you need files other than Word documents as a PDF. :-)

Is there a freeware app that can create PDFs, similar to the way one does
with Adobe Acrobat, but with fewer bugs? :-) I like SumatraPDF that someone
suggested on this list awhile back, and I got to wondering if there were
something similar for creating PDF documents. Of course, I know OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

Subject: Freeware PDF creator?

Is there a freeware app that can create PDFs, similar to the way one does
with Adobe Acrobat, but with fewer bugs? :-) I like SumatraPDF that someone
suggested on this list awhile back, and I got to wondering if there were
something similar for creating PDF documents. Of course, I know OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

RE: Freeware PDF creator?

2010-11-10 Thread Erik Goldoff
McAfee Security Scan Plus is NOT an on access, fully resident and active
software.
Very similar to installing the Sypbot Search and Destroy in scan only mode
while having another active antispyware product installed.
This is nowhere near as hideous as having a fully resident active on-access
antivirus product forced on your system.

Well, not this morning's update, but any "fresh" install appears to force
McAfee down your throat. Previous updates (a week or so ago) also forced
McAfee down your throat.

Yes, it does... and unlike the toolbars, etc that often come packaged with

someone
suggested on this list awhile back, and I got to wondering if there were
something similar for creating PDF documents. Of course, I know
OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to
create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

We still have CutePDF on a few machines.
Even though all the users have Acrobat installed, the ones the ones that
were here before the migration still use it.

Of course, I know OpenOffice
can do it, but I'd rather not install a complete office suite just to create
a PDF. :-)

Thanks!

2010-11-10 Thread John Aldrich
Thanks... I appreciate the prompt response by you and Jonathan Raper. :-)
I'll go take a look at those... Be nice to get rid of Adobe (except, of
course for Flash, but I can now get that built into my browser in Chrome!

NitroPDF is pretty good. It (like most) installs as a printer.
