That graph raises the question Are people still doing scans for A/V? I would have sworn that the last time he question was raised on the list the large majority were not doing them. Also, why no slot for Forefront on the list? The last time I saw numbers from Microsoft regarding FF I believe that they were very similar to the numbers in the graph for Vipre. you said you disabled it - but did you stop it? its prolly the network protection component that is the issue. its been a huge pita for me. along with remote access issues, it can break other things as well - like adobe's licensing service. the last box i had issues with forced me to reformat it after a full week of troubleshooting and KB recommendation following. adobe's own CS3 wipe tool could clear whatever got damaged by SEP11. RE: Help! Microsoft won't open til 9
Disabling protection didn't do it but killing services did. I repackage the install client and redeployed on some test boxes. So far so good. It is still disabled on DCs for now. I will work on this after vacation - I only installed on DC's because the 10x was not getting updates. I should of repaired old 10x instead of just upgrading - hind sight 20/20 Test groups reported no errors except spooler issues - fixed. Project was going in full swing after vacation, but I am going to backup and regroup and redeploy clients to test groups. Pull off dc's and redeploy 10.x I will double check and make sure I am only installing antivirus/spyware. Set Liberal rules on servers(allowing disabling) and thanks to one person, excluding scans on AD directories. -Original Message- From: Micheal Espinola Jr [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 9:30 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Re: Help! Tried add/remove and it just sits there Gathering information So I disabled all services for Symantec and rebooted. We can login now and have full functionality again. Now that I can breath, WTF. Re: Help! Microsoft won't open til 9
Yes, Symantec's attitude stinks. As does the usability of the admin console. And the size of it's footprint, which is positively Yeti-esque. But I think this is a debate that's been seen a few times before, and it usually ends in one word - NOD32. 2008/6/10 Brumbaugh, Luke [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Tried add/remove and it just sits there Gathering information So I disabled all services for Symantec and rebooted. Re: Help! Microsoft won't open til 9
Luke, The question I have is when you installed Endpoint did you install just the anti-virus / anti-malware portion? There are several different software programs rolled into endpoint. You probably installed the firewall software portion too which will shut down a domain controller if not configured. Did you install endpoint out of the box or with MR1 or MR2? -Sean Houston On Tue, Jun 10, 2008 at 9:22 AM, Brumbaugh, Luke [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Tried add/remove and it just sits there Gathering information So I disabled all services for Symantec and rebooted.
