I would wrap it with bubbles on the inside, so the stiffer surface area
outside is contigous and will help spread any load across multiple bubbles
on the inside ( kind of the theory of a Kevlar vest spreading the load of a

You’ll get better load spreading protection from a failed bubble on the

RE: Packing Method

2010-09-20 Thread Maglinger, Paul
I don't know. I just threw that out as a compromise between the
bubble-out-bubble-in methods. I guess I was looking at having a flat
surface against the screen and a flat surface against the side of the
box. I did do a Google on it and found that most people agree that the
bubbles should go in so the outside surface is flat for taping, etc.

It's already out the door. I elected to double wrap with
bubbles-to-bubbles, and also placed some additional wrap in the box.

But I think it is a good discussion. There's probably a good
engineering-level explanation for different methods but I'm not losing sleep
over the topic.

Hard to tell when someone’s joking or not. Apologies to Jonathan Raper. :-)
I do know that one of the concerns of packing peanuts is that they are/were
made from dead dinos, but of course, this negates that argument. Plus, they
make great filler for bean bags (I know this as my wife decided to refill
our bean bag with a huge bag of packing peanuts -- it worked. :-))

RE: Packing Method

2010-09-20 Thread Maglinger, Paul
But don't use the corn starch ones. They don't hold up as well!

Hard to tell when someone's joking or not.

Nahh... They make packing peanuts from corn starch now, you know...
Biodegradeable and all that. :-)

Serious note here... what I usually try to do, if I have any, is to put a
layer of packing peanuts in, then place the bubble-wrapped package in on
top, then fill it up with peanuts.

Re: Packing Method

2010-09-20 Thread Jon Harris
You mean you don't store that stuff in big plastic bags for reuse?
Seriously now you don't? I know that I used to keep two trash bags full of
them at the last job for shipping IT stuff and at least two others kept bags
for their shipping. Current job does not seen to get or store them.
