Re: change password screen hanging
Peter - I do not have that option checked in UM. All has been working fine untill this last round of users have been prompted to change the passwords on their interval. I just brought a new WINS server up and online and shutdown the old one and it seems to coincide with these issues. That is why I am thinking that, but just wanting to see if anyone else has had these issues. Never had them before. Thanks again, Craig DeLong Not quite sure if I understand the question completely however check to see if you have user must logon to change password enabled in UM. - Original Message - From: Craig DeLong [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: NT System Admin Issues [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 17, 2001 12:46 PM Subject: change password screen hanging Hello all, I am having a problem where people are being asked to change their domain password at logon and when they choose yes and enter in the old password and the new ones the system hangs at that screen. Everything works fine if I change it on the server and then they login. Nothing else seems to be affected but this change password screen hanging. I have tried it from within Windows as well and it hangs there too. It has happened on NT and 2000 workstations both. I am going to check out the wins server and what not, but not sure why only this feature would be hanging and no others. Thank you... RE: change password screen hanging
to change the password you have to be able to get to the PDC ( at least in nt40). check to see if there's a domain entry for the pdc in WINS. try a pdc reboot, or you might be able to do an nbtstat -RR to release and refresh. (I've never tried this) any events in the PDC or workstation event logs? RE: change password screen hanging
At the workstation that is having the problem do a nbtstat -a name of the PDC. There has to be a 1B resource type that indicates the PDC is the Primary Domain Controller for the Domain. When you use -a option, you also verifying the WINS. Also when you brought up the new WINS, did you use the same computer name and ip address? Did you migrate the WINS database from old to new?
