RE: Recycling Resource

2012-07-19 Thread Richard McClary
It depends on your recycler...

A lot of stores will accept NiMH and alkaline batteries. Fewer will accept
LiON, and fewer still will accept small SLA's (sealed lead-acid) batteries from
UPS's, etc.

We have a local recycler (big) that will accept the small SLA's and all the
others. However, large SLA's from automobiles, etc, they will actually pay you
for them (but only for them).

Best way I have found to recycle is to put it curb side with a sign saying free
for the taking 2 days before trash day or the best day is either Friday or
Saturday. You would be surprised what people will do for something free. I
have a 64 rear projection screen TV I may move down to the curb this weekend.
I just don't want to see if broken on the street is why I have not moved it
before now. Jon

I occasionally have users ask about recycling personal electronics. In the US,
Best Buy has a free recycling program for many electronic items. Here is a

RE: Recycling Resource

2012-07-19 Thread Jon Harris

Maybe that is why it takes so long on week days for it to disappear. We have a
lot of garage sales around my place so things marked as free or no sign on them
tend to disappear at night if placed on the curb. I may try that for the TV.
Who knows someone may actually buy it. All that is wrong with it is a blown
capacitor on either the high voltage or low voltage power supply. New boards
are not available but someone with the skill set and tools should be able to
fix it. I don't have the tools or the time anymore to mess with it. Jon

No, the BEST way is to put a sign on it saying “For Sale - $50”. People will
steal it if they think it’s worth something. This method has worked for me in
the past when the “Free” sign didn’t.
