[nysbirds-l] 2 Orange-crowned Warblers at Overlook Beach (Town of Babylon)

2011-12-10 Thread John Gluth
Found ~2:30 this afternoon during a belated (and fruitless) search
for the N. Shrike found Tuesday by Ken Fuestel at nearby Cedar Beach.
Both Orange-crowns were in the dense scrub immediately on the other
side of the dirt berms ~30 yards SE of the cell phone tower. They were
not seen simultaneously, but the first bird seen was noticeably brighter
in color than the second. Whomever is covering this area during the
Captree CBC on the 18th should keep this spot in mind.

[nysbirds-l] Little Gull at Point Lookout

2011-12-10 Thread Steve Walter
I heard from Tom Burke that he and Gail found an adult LITTLE GULL (with
about 100 Bonaparte's Gulls) late today out on the ocean off Point Lookout
Town Park. There was a frenzy of large gulls at the mouth of Jones Inlet
earlier in the day, but they appeared to be all Herring. Still RAZORBILL
activity on the inside. Tom found one in the channel this morning, looking
out from the Short Beach boat basin, possibly the same one that I observed a
while later, moving toward the inlet in the vicinity of the fisherman's lot.

[nysbirds-l] New Hampshire Suggestions: Please contact me off list

2011-12-10 Thread Brien Hindman
Hi all,

I apologize for filling your inbox with a personal request, but I thought
it would be silly of me not to employ the sharp minds that constitute the
NYSBirds list. I've received dead on suggestions in the past. The short
of it is, I am leaving in a few hours to visit my aunt who is celebrating
her 35th wedding anniversary near North Conway, NH. My schedule suddenly
opened up a bit, and I'd like to sneak some birding in. I'm not holding my
breath, but I did read a report on NHBD of a few pine grosbeaks spotted in
Hanover at the beginning of this month. My targets are the pine and
evening grosbeak, and of course anything else that presents itself along
the way. I would very much appreciate any suggestions that would aid my
research tonight in my motel room as to where to go tomorrow. Thanks all,
especially due to the short notice.

Good Birding,

Brien Hindman
