[nysbirds-l] Shawangunk NWR birds
Went to Shawangunk Grasslands N.W.R. this afternoon and it was worth the trip. Almost as soon as we got there around 2 pm or so the fields were a buzz with raptors. Had at least 6 Short-eared Owls, 1 Rough-legged Hawk, 4+ Red-tailed Hawks, and 7+ Northern Harriers including one adult male. The owls and harriers gave excellent views the whole time we were there. And to top it off we had a Barred Owl in a tree next to the exit road just past the feeders as we left. We also had 3 female Common Goldeneyes along Lippincott Rd. in Wallkill as well as 40+ Turkeys along the same road. Also seen today was a Barred Owl first thing this morning across from my friends home at The Springs along the edge of a field in Purchase. Andrew Andrew v. F. [nysbirds-l] Clay-Colored Sparrow in Quogue
This morning Tom Moran and I saw a Clay-Colored Sparrow with a few Field Sparrows near the Post Lane Bridge in Quogue. It was feeding on the ground just off the sidewalk on the west side of the road, near the second driveway to the north of the bridge. -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME.htm http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES.htm http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birding.aba.org/maillist/NY01 Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
[nysbirds-l] Common gallinule, Blydenburgh pork rowboat entrance
There is a common gallinule currently being viewed from the rowboat launch at Blydenburgh Park. It is at the south portion of the pond. The bird is swimming against the phragmites and moving in and out so it is not always visible.
