2021-04-29 Thread Jelly_Admn
Finally! An Indigo Bunting (m) came to my house! Didn't have to drive
anywhere. At first he was on my feeder. Then he hung out on my fence for a few
mins.Hopefully he shows up tomorrow. I'll let you all know.

Re: [nysbirds-l] Painted Bunting @ Alley Pond Park Queens County

2012-11-26 Thread Jelly_Admn
Ok,Thanks Arie for the detailed map.  This map is very accurate except for the
getting to the upper winchester lot. I tested it with my addy and it brought me
to the grand central on-ramp(try it) Basically the entrance road for the lot is
under the grand central parkway and thus causing confusion. If you are coming
from Union TPK you need to be on Winchester Blvd. If you are coming from the
other direction from the LIE the same road is Douglaston PKY. The same road has
2 names depending which direction you are coming from. Once you get on this
road the lot entrance is across the street from the sanitation dept. It runs
along the Grand Central above you. There are signs saying Alley Pond Park
Adventure Park. Thanks Arie for the map and details but the directions are off
and will really throw people off.

hope this helps a bit

Bob et al,

A live map is here:  http://tinyurl.com/mrvzab     for alley pond

which I have updated with the location of the Punting.

Right Clicking on a road in any google map will allow directions to
or from. or on an icon etc.

[nysbirds-l] Alley Pond Park - horned owl

2012-11-20 Thread Jelly_Admn
After unsuccessfuly seeing the Virginia's Warbler I headed toward the upper
pond and rest station and saw a male Great Horned Owl  fly in and land on a
tree over the path to the upper pond by the Grand Central.  He was witnessed by
myself and Johan who was doing some macro work.

Owl can be found by the tall trees over the restrooms

Re: [nysbirds-l] JBWR 5.7.12

2012-05-07 Thread Jelly_Admn
Thanks everyone! I got the bird ID'd It was a Willet, the legs seemed too dark
to me but it was positively ID'd. Thanks everyone who responded.

Jason

Today I went to check out the White Face Ibis, I saw the report of a
spotting at 9:15am. I got there at 10am and went to bench 8 and saw a
dozen or so Glossy Ibis. All had white on the face as usual but none
were WF Ibis.  I did get some pics of the Ibis's along with some large
Sandpiper with dark feet I could not identify.  Also pics taken of
Tri-Colored Heron, Juvenile Black Crown Night Heron, many assorted
warblers and sparrows.

If any of you are interested in helping
me identifying a couple of birds (not sure if hybrids or young) I have
pics that I need help on, just email me back

2012-05-01 Thread Jelly_Admn
Eric Miller and I did NOT spot the Golden-winged today. We did hear some
Blue-Winged, Yellow Throats and Eric said he heard a Kentucky warbler

We did spot(and I snapped some pics) a Prairie Warbler. Juvenile Red-Tailed
Hawk was also spotted and photographed. He was trying to get a squirrel.

Thanks Eric for taking the time and walking with me.
