I should probably soften my reference to the NJ Dotterels as 'likely'.
Reviewing the heavily cropped photos (see NJ list) I'm less convinced that
American Golden-Plover can be safely ruled out. Hopefully the birds have
lingered overnight and will be studied carefully today. Will update the
list if I hear any more.

Dotterel is a species that comes to mind when thinking of possible origins
for a Corncrake and Common Greenshank. There was also a recent report of a
candidate Common/Oriental Cuckoo in MA but as far as I know it was not
photographed or refound.

Having this very exciting bird in our area for a few days reminded me of Van 
Morrison's  lyric from his meditation "Coney Island" --- "Out all day 
birdwatching and the craic was good". Believe that term for good conversation 
is pronounced the same way as the bird. Things come in threes and while I 
missed the Greenshank and the Corn Crake you twitchers should be good for one 
more great rarity before winter sets in. Good craic and good birding.

For people unfamiliar with the Jones Beach strip, the following information 
might be useful.

Parking (and even walking) on the Ocean Parkway is not permitted, although 
enforcement of these rules varies a great deal.

I suggest parking at the Overlook Beach parking lot on the ocean side, then 
walking a short distance east along the parkway and crossing at the turn-around 
labeled "Cedar Beach Marina"

>From the west, take the Meadowbrook or the Wantagh south to the Ocean Parkway 
>then head east.

>From the east, take the Robert Moses Causeway south to the Ocean Parkway then 
>head west.
