Hi Martin & others interested: The Snow Goose that Tom is referring to at Van Cortlandt Park, looks like this. It has been there since 2016. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yTlslLuX218/WGPR-MT39vI/HQA/12gH5395W4oqVwAILCgMqDeSsK5JwAstgCLcB/s1600/smSNGO-5661.jpg A Ross's looks like this one, recently photographed at Pelham Bay in the Bronx https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zoolI1HjHNc/WIFggbv4bLI/HQk/dBYrpnN5Ml4ENj7vJlEdBZ8vj3dLc4BVwCLcB/s1600/SMROGOSS-7417.jpg Martin: if the "White Goose" at VCP you saw looks like the latter, then please let us know as it might require further investigation. re:[nysbirds-l] "white goose" Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx County) 1/20
Dear Martin & all, The 'white goose' with the Canada Goose flocks that gather & feed on the Parade Ground of Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx County, NY) is a Snow Goose; simply by size relative to the many Canadas it is with, we can be rather certain of that. Details observed with closer scoping and good photos, especially of the head and bill, fully confirm this bird as a Snow (& not a Ross's) Goose. The Snow Goose has been quite regular in appearing at the Parade Ground and the nearby lake; this bird was present at the time I discovered the Pink-footed Goose there, which latter has not been seen in about 3 weeks now at that Bronx site.
