[old-chevy-truck] 2009 Chevrolet vs. 1959 Chevrolet

2010-11-30 Thread Jones, Allen
If someone hasn't seen this, it is interesting.
http://www.iihs.org/video.aspx/info/50thcrash. Take note of the A pillar
performance between the Malibu and Bel Air - it's remarkable. It really does
drive home the point on what to expect in a offset frontal impact. I think
this would even apply to our old trucks. I get a false sense of security
thinking my added seat belts will protect me in a serious crash. Not to
mention the javelin of a steering column that will likely impale thought my
chest. It is a shame they destroyed the Bel Air. This email is full of happy
thoughts...

PS Also note the dust (or is it sand blast grit?) that comes out of the rocker
panel of the Bel Air on impact. Impressive.

i rolled a 58 pickup when i was 17, way back then.
trust me, you do not want to do that.
roof comes down, gas pours all over the driver (from that handy filler neck),
doors fly open, etc...
seat belts are good to keep the kids under control when you hit the brakes
lap belts in our trucks are a sure fire way to bite the steel dash in a wreck
3 point belts might save your but in a 30mph wreck
i put them in my truck because my wife wanted them
yes it was a shame to crash that 59

the Duracell Project it keeps going... and going...
When I die, i want to go asleep and peaceful, not screaming and freaking out

2010-11-30 Thread Nate

Yeah ;

I wasn't happy to see them destroy a ' Batmobile ' Chevy as they were mostly
scrapped from the 1960's through the late 1980's , being almost _unsellable_ at
-any- price..

I hope all here realize that our beloved old trucks (and cars) are all 100 %
_DEATH_TRAPS_ ~no way 'round it , nothing you can do to mitigate this sad fact .

Wear your seat belts and practice Defensive Driving .

Hey All,  I was in a wreck, with my 46 Plymouth, 9/15/10.  My left front was
smashed by a big Ford Expedition, I wasn't hurt; however, my old post war steel
car prevented the big vehicle from rolling over.  I'll submit pics, if the site

Re: [old-chevy-truck] 2009 Chevrolet vs. 1959 Chevrolet

2010-11-30 Thread Arizona Real Estate
I was in a crash, 9/16/2010, in CA with my old Plymouth 46 sedan.  My car took
a hit and prevented the big Ford Expedition from rolling over.  I can supply
photos, if the site will allow.  Here is my version, sent to Nate, which means
it is the truth:
She is 19 years old, was driving angrily because she had just been fired from
her job.  She was speeding downhill, on a two lane rural road, next to the
freeway in Alpine.  She veered past the  four stopped cars, waiting at a three
way stop sign, hit the brakes as she passed the last car in line, as she rammed
into a lady making a legitimate left turn, towards the direction the speeder
was coming from.   She bounced of that first car, which spun 360 degrees and
careened right over PLYWOOD,  as I was stopped at the third stop sign, waiting
my turn.  The girl was up on two wheels in the process of rolling over and
hitting PLYWOOD actually bounced her vehicle back onto four wheels; which saved
her from rolling down hill onto the freeway below.  She didn't have a license
with her and the vehicle was uninsured and her Mother, the owner was her
passenger.  It was all quite a mess.  The CHP impounded their car and gave her
a ticket for several
infractions.  I believe the Mother was letting the 19 year old drive because
the Mother had been drinking all day, this at 1 PM on a Thursday.  I filed the
SR-1 with CA DMV and my collector car ins is paying about 95% of my expenses.
I am out of pocket about $600+, mainly because there was a $250 towing limit on
my coverage and I wanted to get PLYWOOD back to Art, whom you met, and who has
nearly finished restoring PLYWOOD.

Charlie Olson, driving RED RYDER and PLYWOOD (soon)
