2011-10-16 Thread Jonas Thaler
I believe there is a truck for every truck-lover. I would recommend a lot of
research, as much as you can stand, before you make your move. The more you
read up and surf the Internet ahead of time, the better. If you don't do
research, then you tend to succumb to human nature and make your first purchase
solely an emotional decision rather than a rational one. This greatly affects
your investment, ie how much money you will have to spend to get this truck to
be the way you like it.

All that adult stuff.

Anyway, the gist of it is KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, know what your dream truck is as
best you can before you buy it.

As if I EVER followed that advice for about 60 old vehicle purchases!

I have had great luck buying parts cheaply from the auction site that rhymes
with fee-pay. Also there are a lot of dealers who have internet catalogs like
American Classics, Jim Carter and Brothers. Some reproduction parts are
garbage, so I would recommend finding a pick-a-part and getting to know what
real IRON looks and feels like.

And with some looking around you can probably find a mechanic in your area who
knows how wonderful these old vehicles are, what a pleasure it is to work on
them, and who will make a little money helping you with your amazing new hobby.

That's my 2 ¢

[old-chevy-truck] Re: parts for antique. ancient trucks

2011-10-16 Thread Kim's guy

at 1:00 a.m. new jersey time I hope I can get this out without
nodding off, I'm close to doing that! A truck for me. pick up trucks
are rather prevailant and i got to recalling I got to savoring the
memory of the 1957 chevy stake truck two uncles had on their farm
in upstate NY. by the 1970s the farm was in real bad straits the
chevy needing a battery that there was NO money for the truck just
wound up forsaken and up to its rims sunk in dirt, ultimatly junked.
It had an in line 6 engine that I LOVED the sound of it and a 4 speed
manual trans I just loved its sounds and watching my uncles d rive
it what it looked like etc. SO It having been old I love old
antique stake trucks i love in line engines and manual transmissions
shifting i wonder if i have to custom build my own truck?? and I'd
love the truck to be my everyday driver too! SO I'd love an OLD
AMERICAN made farm/stake truck with an in line 6 engine and manual
trans. DO I seem demanding and picky? I hope not that isnt my
intention Grateful to you for your time and your valueable 2 cents
worth!!!
