Unfortunately, there is another real problem. There is a little law of
physics that is called The Conservation of Energy. It cannot be violated.
Energy into a system *must* equal the energy out of the system. The
inventer must separate H2 and O2 from water and then use the H2 for fuel,
which recombines with O2 to make water as a by-product. See anything wrong
here? When was the work done? The energy equation for this system will not
balance. Also, there is no trick to running electrolyis with tap water. It's
done with seawater every single day.

Don't get me wrong, I want a zero-point energy device right this minute,
along with a cold fusion device. I, personally, have an urgent need for that
type of power system. There's a couple of people on this List who know why.
But I don't think this device is it.

On another note in relation to this invention, the Lone Lantern Society
http://www.lonelantern.org/ is a sponsor for the inventer. There's just one
problem with that. The Lone Lantern Society is one of those groups that
claims 9/11 was a hoax put on by our government. That destroys any
credibility the inventer may have been able to claim.

No one wants to get into an arguement with me by claiming 9/11 was a hoax.

> car affect traction?

You can have a problem. That's why the suspension must be designed to
compensate. For cornering, cut the roll rate and keep the tire treads flat
on the pavement. The reduced weight, itself, will remove some of the inertia
moment vectoring outward when in a high speed corner and reduce the roll
rate.

> Assuming no changes to the tires, does making a car lighter improve
> overall
> traction and handling, or worsen it?

Improves cornering traction by removing weight from the center of gravity.
Has a similar effect to lowering the center of gravity. Weight is usually an
enemy when it involves cornering and cornering traction.

> I was thinking that being lighter
> might make traction worse simply because there's less downward force on
> the
> tires.

That's for straightline traction, like at the drag strip. The way to cure
that problem is design the suspension system to raise upward when the
drivetrain is torqued. As Newton stated, "For every action, there is an
equal and opposite reaction." When the body rises on the suspension when
torque is applied, the reverse of the body weight is shoved down into the
tires, particularly the rear tires. That makes the rear tires stick, spin
less, and keep the front tires reasonably on the ground so the driver can
steer. Wheelstands do not win races. Cars that keep their front end down win
races. A large amount of power is wasted during a wheelstand, power that
could move the car down the track much, much quicker.

> But on the other hand . . a heavier car has more inertia. Wouldn't that
> adversely affect handling?

Absolutely. Heavy cars slide off highways in the rain, snow, and ice,
especially when the driver has no clue how to drive that car.

> How does real-world physics work in this regard?

Mass always wins, but sometimes that win is a crash.

Which eBay auction number is that one? It's a Federal Felony to sell a body

I agree with the horrible job of scam-policing.

There is a guy, on ebay right now, selling 5 442 items: 3 badges, a cowl
plate, and a vin plate, allowing someone to fully clone a 67 442.

This is both illegal, and really, really stupid. Other than the 442 trim
code on the cowl (5V), I think, neither the cowl, nor vin, say anything
about it being a 442! The vin says Cutlass Supreme Holiday
Coupe/Post/Convertable and that's it.

Some 442s apparently did not even come with that cowl code either. It's
really a waste of time to do that...he should have done a 68-71 instead.

Your right, the blower motor probably could have been oiled but the
reason it was doing this was due to a water leak at the windshield that
let water into the passenger compartment. I figured if I had to pull the
thing to oil it, I might as well put a new one back in with a warranty.

Same with the alternator. It's easier to buy a new/remanufactured one
that have the stock one rebuilt and have a car down while its being
done. Especially when I have no other transportation.

Interestingly, the Caddy STS uses no key. To open it (with the fob in your pocket) you grab the handle. It opens. When you leave the car, no need to lock it. Walk away and it automatically locks. Allegedly, (according to High Point Insurance) "the transponder on the Caddy STS is the most sophisticated system available on any American car. With it's rolling code, it is virtually impossible to start the car without a key."

Of course, a flat bed truck nullifies that statement.

That's cool. Those were pretty decent radios, and still

Now that I had that taken care of and was taking the old alternator back

A recent Hot Rod magazine (Nov 06) had a little blurb on the bottom of p30
that said "100 MPG is yesterday's news", and mentioned the 1982 result of
Project Saturn, which was a 2-seater economy car, 3 cylinder, 5 speed, that
averaged 105 MPG on the highway and 75 MPG in the city (on a trip from
Warren, Michigan, to New York).

The last sentence: "Since meeting federal safety requirements and adding
creature comforts would have added 200 pounds to the car and required extra
horsepower to propel it, GM dropped the program."
==
A car can run on an engine the size of a medium lawnmower.
However, it will not have much acceleration. Be like driving my Jeep. Only
with good fuel economy.
Many cars get great mileage. VW Diesels got around 50 mpg, with sluggish
acceleration.
My 45 in^3 motorcycle never got near that mileage on gasoline.

A guy down the road here has a NMG car he commutes with "No More Gas"
funky looking 3-wheeled electric car, goes 70 on the hiway All electric,
requires 220V ckt to recharge. Employer lets him charge at work for free.
Google NMG car to find out more.

And, of course, my further question: If they could do that with the
technology available in 1982, where's the 100 MPG car of today?
===
Apparently $2.2x a gallon is not enough to get folks to give up their Huge
SUV's
When even the rich folks feel the squeeze, then folks will buy small
sluggish cars.
Too many rich folks yet.

OT: thoughts on fuel economy

Subject: OT: thoughts on fuel economy

Okay, I meant to ask something about this before, but kept putting it
off

==

A guy down the road here has a NMG car he commutes with
"No More Gas"
funky looking 3-wheeled electric car, goes 70 on the hiway
All electric, requires 220V ckt to recharge. Employer lets him charge at
work for free.

Google NMG car to find out more.

And, of course, my further question: If they could do that with the
technology available in 1982, where's the 100 MPG car of today?
===
Apparently $2.2x a gallon is not enough to get folks to give up their Huge
SUV's
When even the rich folks feel the squeeze, then folks will buy small
sluggish cars.

Too many rich folks yet.

2006-11-05 Thread Christopher Witt

Who's near Hortense GA that can go see the 70 with a 69 title?
