2018-10-03 Thread Gary Wu
The use of http on port 80 seems to be defined in the distributionManagement
block in CCSDK here:

Jess,

I took a closer look at that error below. Not only is the staging plugin using
port 80, but it's using http, not https. I checked my configuration and
verified that I'm using https://nexus.onap.org not http://nexus.onap.org. I
have no clue where that's coming from, unless our settings.xml in Jenkins is
somehow messed up (I can't see that directly)

Jess,

I'm still seeing this problem this morning.

You ask an excellent question about port 80. I checked my configuration
and verified that we're using https://nexus.onap.org with no port specified -
so it should be port 443, not 80. This error is happening within the staging
plugin, which I personally have been railing against for over a year now ...
this is just the latest in a series of problems with that wonderful plugin, the
others being:

1) It occasionally loses track of which is the latest version of a jar
file (which I think Andrew created a workaround for last year).
2) For zip files (which we use as installation bundles), if you try to
pull a specific version from the staging repository, you'll consistently get
the very first copy ever pushed, not the latest. You can see that actually if
you look at the artifacts in the nexus web page - for jar files, you'll see a
list of autogenerated repos but for zip files you'll only see the first.

So, it looks like yet another issue in the staging plugin if you don't
explicitly provide a port, it defaults to 80 even for https, which is just
plain wrong.

I'll try seeing if I can get around this by explicitly setting the port to
443 in the staging url, but if that's the problem ,we should really get
Sonatype to fix it.

Re: [onap-discuss] [**EXTERNAL**] [Onap-usecasesub] MobileEdgeX open source announcement

2018-10-03 Thread Srini
Hi Vimal,

Thank you for pitching in and your views are important.

Current ONAP code is expected to realize “Service Orchestrator”.

Can a persona of ONAP be used as Edge Cloud Orchestrator? My 2 cents is that
ONAP source code has good functionality to realize ONAP as Edge Cloud
Orchestrator too, except that we need to do some work on modularization so that
unnecessary components can be taken off and add some functionality to provide
multi-tenancy. I understand there are concerns to increase the scope of ONAP,
which I appreciate. That is the debate which I think worth having before
ruling out ONAP.

On deployment architecture: When there is Edge Cloud Orchestrator for set of
edges, as you say, there could be multiple application providers using this to
deploy their applications. Service Orchestrator used by operators also would
be one of the consumers of this Edge cloud orchestrator instance if it needs to
place VNFs in those edges. It seems obvious, but wanted to get that
confirmation.

Thanks
Srini

There are several reasons why we might want to keep Edge Cloud and ONAP
separate. Enterprise customer might want to deploy their applications /
content at the right edge location and pay only for the cloud services instead
of paying for a fully ONAP managed applications or content. While back AT&T
had fully managed hosting and basic co-location services (we provided servers,
basic connectivity check, customers managed their applications). Co-location
services was widely more popular than fully managed hosting services. Customer
might not want to go through the trouble of packing their applications that SDC
can upload. I can envision a scenario where Edge Cloud is an independent
services that is being used by more than one operator (just like cell towers in
US today or AWS or Azure).

Vimal

But it may be a passthrough for certain functions. Maybe it would be good to
create a table with all the different cloud edge ‘management’ functions and
talk through what ONAPs role is.
e.g. optimized location for app; scale out/in; availability; optimized server
for a specific set of SLA (CPU speed or RAM speed or NIC specific or Linux
version or CPU type….)
If cloud edge software covers all of this – then what is ONAP’s role. If cloud
edge only does subset, then what is ONAP’s role.

Hi Margaret,

From Srini -- “That said, what are the reasons for application providers to go
edge orchestrators directly instead of going via ONAP assuming that all edges
are under that operator domain?”

I think the case Srini is bringing up is very specific – in this case, all the
edges are under a specific operator domain. If the operator is using ONAP then
all the edges should go through ONAP right?

Thanks,
Ramki

Re: [onap-discuss] Release procedure for repos with a pom hierarchy that includes multiple war/jars per repo #logging #pomba #release

2018-10-03 Thread Michael O'Brien
Update:
What works is adjusting the root pom for each module one at a time in
dependency sequence - essentially simulating separate repos for each artifact.
I could have done separate pom branches together like java and python.

Gildas,
The docker and release jobs for logging are fixed (am through 1 of 6
releases) (just checking a recently red sonar)

Sending the release mail to Jessica for 1 of 6 so far
https://gerrit.onap.org/r/#/c/69736/
https://jenkins.onap.org/view/logging-analytics/job/logging-analytics-master-release-version-java-daily/254/
this is the sequence
remove all links between poms
at the root pom - enable a single jar/war project module one at a time -
release and then fix the poms at the end of the release process
1) logging-slf4j (jar)
2) logging-slf4j-demo (jar)
3) logging-library (jar)
4) logging-mock-service (jar)
5) logging-demo (war)
6) pylog (py)

Skipping both root poms, kubernetes, docker modules

Thank you

Gary,
Clearer - I'll follow this - won't do my two pom artifacts, I currently am
verifying doing one branch starting with logging-sl4j up to the war that
includes 3 jars - later I'll do the pylog and slf4j-demo branches (simulate 3
repos by rotating through 3 split pom branches - after a talk with Prudence).
I may bundle the entire pom project branch (3 jars + 1 war) into one release as
you suggested

The ONAP way of doing releases is probably different from what you'd expect.
This is how it's typically done right now:

  1. We don't commit a change of the pom version to remove the "-SNAPSHOT"
version; the "-SNAPSHOT" is left as-is in source control.
  2. A separate daily job usually with "-version-" in the name runs a "mvn
versions:set" to strip the "-SNAPSHOT" version at job build time, resulting in
artifacts that are release-versioned and pushed to the nexus staging repo.
  3. The "mvn versions:set" command is typically run against the root pom, and
is smart enough to recursively make the same change through all its
children/subtree poms, IF the children/subtree poms are set up correctly to
have their versions inherited from the root pom.
  4. Given the above, it is fine for the "-version-" job to do a staging build
of multiple simultaneous artifacts from an entire tree.

This should work if all your artifact versions can be the same. I don't know
the specifics of your docker job, but if the above works for you on the
Java/Maven side then maybe what you need is to run the "mvn versions:set"
command within the docker job to strip the "-SNAPSHOT" from the poms like how
it's done for the Java builds.

Thanks,
Gary

Team,
Bringing this up to the community because we have a couple general

Running into an issue where I need to 1 artifact at a time but the jobs

Prudence, Jessica and I are looking into this - adding community - if
there are any others with my same issue.
Either I need to flatten and disassociate my pom tree or find a way to
build specifically at folder level - not from the root pom.xml of the repo.

Sorry folks I am late to this discussion.

Reading through this long email thread, I sort of agree with Srini’s/ Ramki’s
comments. Having said that, we should problem try to clearly define what
problem we are trying to solve. if we assume that the Edge cloud is a ‘Special’
case of multiVIM than we would need an orchestration platform to manage the
orchestration and the LCM of the VNF’s/CNFs that would run on it. If ONAP is
not the orchestration Platform then we would need to re-create something
similar.

Thanks,
Ramki

[onap-discuss] VFC ( gvnfm) - VNF IP details in AAI

2018-10-03 Thread Mandeep Singh Kalra
Hi,

If am using the Beijing release of ONAP and trying to create the VNFs on the
cloud.

I can see that LCM module puts the generic VNF details in the inventory ( AAI )
but does it also put the details like VNF IP etc ?
Will the gvnfm do that part ?

Mandeep

Re: [onap-discuss] [E] Re: [onap-tsc] [Onap-arc] Dublin Architecture Planning Meeting

2018-10-03 Thread Viswanath Kumar Skand Priya via Lists.Onap.Org
Dear All,

I just want to bring it to everyone's notice that, for people coming from
India ( & also China I guess ), we won't likely make it to the event as
Canadian Visa issuance is taking a solid 1 month as per my travel desk .
Though I have started the paperwork ( they are asking too much info :-( )
, I'm very much skeptical in getting a visa before Oct 29/30 . Had the
registration for the event was made available a week back, things would
have been much smoother.

Hence I here *request* both IBM & LF Events committee to try pushing this
event by a week (Nov 5,6) so that folks like me who are travelling from
India would get a chance to attend this F2F .

May I also request other members who are also on the same boat as of me, to
comment here, so that we can estimate no of people who are impacted.

Thanks!

BR,
Viswa
