Hi Jon et al,

I don’t see spam now on the wiki.
It does have stability issues.

Which also can be fixed—so I would only port it if it you could do something
new and awesome with like, say, make it distributed… git-based wikis ftw :)

Anyhow
I ran into this error last week, after which I was unable to edit pages:

Warning: require() [function.require]: Unable to allocate memory for pool. in
/var/www/openfontlibrary.org/htdocs/wiki/includes/AutoLoader.php on line 582

When trying to access the site via the API, I get a more specific error message:

bFatal error/b: Allowed memory size of 20971520 bytes exhausted (tried to
allocate 10485741 bytes) in
b/var/www/openfontlibrary.org/htdocs/wiki/includes/api/ApiFormatJson.php/b
on line b68/b

20MB is the default memory limit for PHP, someone with SSH should define a
higher limit it in the PHP.ini?

see
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Errors_and_symptoms#Fatal_error:_Allowed_memory_size_of_nnn_bytes_exhausted_.28tried_to_allocate__bytes.29

ps
the limit is for the wiki and the ccHost site together no? than it also makes
sense that sometimes the wiki is unstable only sometimes—when there’s more
traffic to the oflb itself

…

cheers,

Yeah, I see the site now as just broken. ccHost is busted and I don't
encourage anyone to use it for like 3 years now...we should move onto
aiki asap...if anyone interested in helping, that launchpad is ready
and can get access!

Hi,

You do have to have an account and be logged in AFAIK... will try to look at
this tomorrow as it is urgent, but have no net at home, only email via
gPhone...

The wiki main page was nothing but spam; I removed the spam, but maybe
there should be content there.

I *URGE* anyone able to configure the wiki to make it so you mut
be logged in to make changes.

Furthermore, a response to the email should be required before an
account is created.

Otherwise, oflb is in danger of getting blacklisted by google,
as well, of course, as being a pretty uselss wiki!

update: I restored the content from about 100 edits ago; there's
a spambot adding links every few minutes though.

2009-06-03 Thread Nicolas Spalinger

Seems our wiki is hit by spammers.
Anybody here on the list would like to help clean it up?

Thanks,

No, because OSUOSL ignores me and my new ssh key

I disabled the blacklist that I believe Jon installed because
blacklists have victims, and have been doing antispam by hand the last
week while I find the time to set up a captcha that works. I'll try
again now.

Could you please try ReCaptcha instead? Seems to work fine for

Please make sure the captcha does not rely solely on
image recognition -- not only because those have been
mostly cracked, unless you write a custom one or use
one of Neville Brody's experimental fonts :-) but also
because of accessibility, e.g. for people with poor vision,
astigmatism, differing colour perception etc.

A simple arithmetic test, 1 + 3 = [___] seems to be
sufficient in most cases, for example.

Thanks :)

savannah.gnu.org has that kind of test. We still get a few spam
registrants. I think the math has to be harder. Some open-ended
typography question (Who designed Zapf Chancery?) would probably be
spam-proof.
