Re: [osol-discuss] any work on bug ID 6807184

2009-11-28 Thread Yannis Schoinas
I must admit I was suprised by this, but it was the FIX_TXDESC_ATOMIC flag that
fixed the problem. I just set the following flags and the NIC stopped hanging:
-DFIX_6888015 \
-DDBG_TXDESC_DUMP \
-DFIX_SYS_ERR_INT \
-DFIX_TX_TIMEOUT \
-DFIX_TXDESC_ATOMIC \

Performance does improve with the all the flags set. I have been using iometer
on a CIFS filesystem with these tests and with only the flags above I was
getting ~750 Mbps. It jumped to ~900 Mbps with all the flags defined.

[osol-discuss] OpenSolaris SAMBA with LDAP back end

2009-11-28 Thread Steven Sim

Hi All;

My efforts to get SAMBA to work with DSEE LDAP has failed miserably on
Opensolaris 6/09.

I need the ZFS features of Opensolaris and so cannot do it on any other
platform.

Efforts to use the scripts as recommended in
https://www.opends.org/wiki/page/SambaPDCServer have failed because they
are not Opensolaris compatible. My efforts to use editposix=true in
/etc/sfw/smb.conf to bypass external scripts was also not successful.

DSEE 7.0 installed ok though and I've gotten the schema imported
properly into the DS 7.0 instance. (following instructions from
https://www.opends.org/wiki/page/SambaPDCServer)

Any body in this list has gotten SAMBA to work with LDAP on Opensolaris?

Warmest Regards
Steven Sim

[osol-discuss] Opensolaris 2009/06 2010/02 update/upgrade problems

2009-11-28 Thread me
I have successfully installed both Opensolaris 2009/06 and 2010/02 preview but
the only thing that I can get to work for upgrade or install/update are the
core system files for the 2009/06 distro. For the 2010/02 I cannot get anything
to update. I am updating over a wireless 11b network. I cannot get open office
or any other updates to install with out a download failed message from the
package manager. For your information I can connect to the internet and browse
and download from other sites just fine, installing Codeina codecs functions
fine to.

Anybody have any ideas? I am trying to give Opensolaris a try for a replacement
mobile Operating Environment

OpenSolaris 2009.06 and /dev include XVR-100 support.

Re: [osol-discuss] What version of a program in IPS?

2009-11-28 Thread Alan Coopersmith
At the moment, for packages in the main repo (/release, /dev), the package
creator gets no choice or control - package versions are assigned by the
SVR4 -> IPS conversion, and the team doing that hasn't researched each of
the thousand packages to find what version number to publish or make sure
they stay up to date.

This should improve as the consolidations start being converted to generate
the IPS packages directly, and they can then set the versions themselves
when creating the packages.

So I am trying to understand...is this something that package maintainers
should be doing and are not or is it just something where there are no rules
and people are doing what they think is right?

Should I file an RFE around this?

Its a bit of a process artifact. Note too that the version number of
the package does *not* have to match that of the software (especially
when its has been modified compared to upstream). But, I do agree that
there should be an easier way to expose the upstream version to users.

Moblin can be thought of as just another Linux distro. I've gotten
the older GUI code running, but the bulk of the work is the
middleware. This will be no trivial task and if the history continues
it will be a moving target with a lot of maintenance.

Re: [osol-discuss] OpenSolaris MicroDev edition

2009-11-28 Thread Uros Nedic

My suggestion is not directly related to this topic, butI would like to propose
that SUN Management startto talk with Google and Intel about their future
Embeded OSesfor Netbooks/PDAs. I'm talking about Chrome OS andMobLin - both are
based on Linux.
Here it is well known that OpenSolaris is lacking frommiddleware. I did some
small research for Chrome OS -it looks like that we have all needed middleware
tobuild it on top of SunOS kernel instead of Linux.More info you could find on
www.chromium.org andselect OS link.
For MobLin is a little bit harder but it is still posible, withthe help of SUN
Engineers, Community, to provide SunOSversion od such Embeded platform.More
info could be found on www.moblin.org
If we want to achieve it we have to act very fast! Icannot do it alone - first
do not have enough timeand second I'm not SUN employee and have to earnmy
salary in my own company.
What is opinion of Community and SUN employeesregarding that?

Is the qsort() compare function in atacmds.cpp declared as a C++ or
extern C function?

If it is C++, try forcing it to extern C.

I think I found the source (smartmontools-5.38) and verified the above
failure with:

 $ export CXXFLAGS=-library=no%Cstd,no%Crun
 $ export LDFLAGS=-library=no%Cstd,no%Crun
 $ export CC=/opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc
 $ export CXX=/opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC
 $ ./ocnfigure
 $ gmake

You can force the use of the libc qsort() by changing the compare
function to C:

Should we not have stricter controls over this? Seems a bit loose to me that
you can just choose whether or not to report the version on your package.
