The linker is complaining. It can't find a reference to __tgmath_cos. Try the
following:
gcc -std=c99 tgmath.c -ltgmath library -lm -Wall -W

Replace tgmath_library appropriately.

I'd switch to the forked version immediately. In all honesty, who wouldn't like
to see Oracle out of this equation. It could be very healthy for OpenSolaris or
whatever it'll be called when forked.

I find that reading text on OpenSolaris B131 and down to be unpleasant compared

either Mac OS X or Windows? Is there any work at Oracle to address this issue?

Re: [osol-discuss] I give up.

2008-06-05 Thread Michael Lee
I too never got wpi0 to work stably but on a T61p in any mode, wep, wpa, or
neither the two. It'll connect and work for a bit, then either it'll drop the
connection over and over or the data rate will be all over the place down to a
few bytes a second even when the laptop is a few feet away from the access
point. In any case, it's unstable and unusable.

I was never sure where to file bugs; so I just posted to bugs forum in hopes
that someone from Sun would file the bug and get it fixed at some point. From
the responses, it seems that other people have seen the same behavior.

[osol-discuss] Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and T61P

2008-05-17 Thread Michael Lee
On a T61P with a 3945ABG wifi device (pci8086,4227) running snv_86, wpi0 comes
up and even connects sometimes but it's very unstable. The connection generally
hangs or comes in and out to the point of being useless.

On my local access point using wpa or one that's public, more frequently than
not I get the error message: dladm: cannot connect: operation timed out.

Sometimes the same dladm command will connect. Similarly, using NWAM, it'll
connect on boot but more often than not, I'll get error messages, something
about not being able to set the power.

Is wpi0 known to be flakey?

Has anyone seen wpi0 working well?

Thanks.

Re: [osol-discuss] How to boot to console, not starting xserver?

2008-02-28 Thread Michael Lee
You can try booting to single-user mode, which is one of the options on the
grub menu, fix the problem, i.e. modify xorg.conf--or turn off the graphical
login, cde or gdm, whatever is on.

Before the graphical login kicks in, you have to login to the console. You can
also ssh to your box if it's on a network.

[osol-discuss] Re: Solaris as NetBSD?

2007-05-31 Thread Michael Lee
I don't agree. I think that OpenSolaris/Solaris could be very competitive if
Sun focuses on x86 (32 and 64 bits). If Sun could by hook or by crook support
(as in drivers) a vast array of hardware out there, provide a centralized way
of installing/upgrading software (make it as easy as possible) and patches, and
persuade, again by hook or by crook, 3rd party vendors, e.g., Adobe's Acrobat
Reader, to support Solaris x86. I think it may be an impossible set of tasks
and very unlikely to happen but if, since we're talking hypothetically, they
could accomplish the above, then Sun could easily compete with Linux and
possibly become the 2nd most popular OS after Windows of course. But alas, the
choice on the desktop is either Windows or Linux, the latter a distant second.
However, Dell has recently started to offer boxes with Ubuntu installed. If it
means anything at all, Linux is gaining more and more acceptance.
p
Mind you, it's certainly much better now with Solaris 10, then it was a few
years ago--Sun was once going to shutdown Solaris x86--but as far as driver
support goes, Solaris x86 pales in comparison with Linux and obviously Windows.
p
NetBSD doesn't seem to have much traction these days. Does anyone care about
processors outside of AMD, Intel, Sun, and IBM's these days at least in servers
and desktops?
p
I'd rather have stellar support for x86-class CPUs especially with multi-cores
being the new black than a wide variety of CPUs.

[osol-discuss] Re: Re: Sun to make Solaris more Linux like

2007-05-14 Thread Michael Lee
Yes, what you say is all true: we can take it up with vendors for driver
support or purchase NVidia graphics cards. But the far more realistic
alternative is just switch to Linux and not deal with it. From the point of
view of a desktop, it's the best of all possible worlds: it's like Unix and one
enjoys tons of software, open source or otherwise, your hardware will generally
work, and there's a huge user base. It's called the network effect:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_effect.

[osol-discuss] Re: Sun to make Solaris more Linux like

2007-05-12 Thread Michael Lee
It's painfully obvious that OpenSolaris and Solaris on x86 platforms lack
drivers of all sorts. It also lacks an easy way to install software reliably.
If making OpenSolaris/Solaris more like Linux can resolve both these problems
then I'm all for it. If the Linux-like statement is just a marketing ploy,
then it's just a waste of time and it'll signal the death knell of Solaris. The
latter is just Sun jumping the shark with Solaris.

I've switched over to Ubuntu and everything just works. I have sound and native
OpenGL (Radeon X800). The latter just required aptitude install fglrx. In the
end, I'd rather be coding/playing with things that interest me. The OS to me is
an means to end, e.g., writing code and playing with OpenGL say, than managing
all the packages that I need to achieve that end.

I've found Blastwave generally disappointing especially when it comes to
daemons such as MySQL, Apache, etc. For client software like editors, e.g.:
emacs, it seems fine.

Personally, I'd like to see Sun create a group to maintain debian-like packages
and create a frontend and a backend similar to Ubuntu--or make Blastwave more
like Ubuntu for software management.

Would you mind dropping the subject? It's been a little beaten to death and

if you don't mind putting a bit of effort, i.e., you have the source and Studio

Yes it would be but Ubuntu is a much better choice because of the following:
1. far more drivers, e.g.: native driver from ATI
2. single set of tools, you don't get different versions of ls, m4, awk--it's
all gnu--and an extensive pkg-get software base; far better than blastwave.org
3. better laptop support
