Re: [osol-discuss] Installing IPS on a opensolaris.
Seems like I have SXCE (code named nevada) instead of actual Opensolaris. Do yourself a favor and go for a VirtualBox solution if you want to get a preview of OpenSolaris/Solaris. Just install the latest VirtualBox on the nearest computer you have around and then install OpenSolaris/Solaris in Vbox. You will get a much better experience of OpenSolaris/Solaris running the latest version. http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads http://opensolaris.org/os/downloads/ -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
[osol-discuss] Installing IPS on a opensolaris.
I am new to Opensolaris (only a couple of days). I have a command line sudo access to an Opensolaris box. During reading few docs I learnt it has a package manager IPS which can be used from the command line using 'pkg' command. But its missing from my system. I tried finding packages to install it, but couldn't find it. Any place where it can be found. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

As such, you'll have to either build pkg(5) yourself and install the resultant package or install OpenSolaris itself. What I dont understand is how you get two different release numbers 67 and 89. Did you type it manually and make a typo? There is no IPS or pkg binary. There is no way to install pkg into SXCE, and if you did copy it, it probably render SXCE useless when first used. You need to download the latest Opensolaris at: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/ Do not choose Solaris Express CE (SXCE). Solaris Express supports SVR4 packaging natively. Your options are to install pkg manually by compiling the source gate and installing the packages it creates or install OpenSolaris on this machine. From what I can see, it's not Opensolaris. It's SXCE. What I dont nderstand is how you get two different release numbers 67 and 89. Did you type it manually and make a typo?
