Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X
team, thanks to all for the help. I got it to work. I also got zfs, cifs, & vmware-tools going. partial success on the tools... I created a new topic with some detail on how I got it all to work at http://www.nexenta.com/corp/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=44&func=view&id=108&catid=11 joseph This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X
Erast, Much thanks! I was trying to apt-get install nexenta-gnome, but I did not find the unofficial repository... I'll try it and let the community know. btw, what happened to the gnusolaris site? I recall substantial forums & wikis and nexenta.com says they moved them there, but I cannot locate them. I'm also trying to get samba / cifs working on nexentastor, but having some issue. I'm running nexentastor & ncp in vmware-server on ubuntu gutsy. I had attached two esata drives to nexentastor and built a zfs dataset, but was unable to get the smb share working. So, now, I'll probably take the two disks and build a zfs in ncp that I can share. Then when nexentastore 0.99.5 comes out with the cifs corrections, I should be able to move the zfs over, correct? Again, much thanks! joseph -Original Message- From: Erast Benson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 18, 2008 6:14 PM To: joseph schafer Cc: opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org Subject: Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X Joseph, there is NCP 1.0 compatible repository, which supports GNOME, and it still could be used, though, officially not supported: http://www.nexenta.org/apt-gnusolaris Just use that for you /etc/apt/sources.list and install gnome like: apt-get install nexenta-gnome I know that some developers working on XFCE NCP1-based distribution - it is going to be fully re-distributable work, under CDDL license, likely with its own name and its own web-site. Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X
ok, I added deb http://www.nexenta.org/apt-gnusolaris elatte-stable main contrib non-free and ran apt-get update and apt-get install nexenta-gnome but no joy, I checked and the elatt-stable directories (alpha 7) are empty. the unstable ones had packages so I changed the line in etc/apt/source.list to deb http://www.nexenta.org/apt-gnusolaris elatte-unstable main contrib non-free and then ran apt-get update and apt-get install nexenta-gnome it's downloading about 500Mb of dependencies, so it will take a while... will let the team know how it's going. thanks again, joseph This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X
Martti, thanks for trying! NCP do not intend to ship any GUIs and GUI applications on top. Please read policy on what is allowed in 'main' repository: http://www.nexenta.org/os/NexentaRepositoryPolicyMain NCP main repository is self sufficient and any package in it could be installed and if needed rebuilt. The process is outlined here: http://www.nexenta.org/os/BuildingPackages We believe that there are a lot of talented developers out there with artistic skills who could add their value on top of NCP and produce best of the class OpenSolaris Desktops! If you one of them - you could start your own APT repository and share it with others. If you are just a user - simply wait till somebody else will jump in and produce it for you. Erast how can I go on... 1. X-works, but there are messages:...no /root/.xsession no/root/.Xsession... no window manager where can I download: xdm, gdm, kdm... 2. Building/Porting packages for Nexenta. /etc/apt/sources.list deb-src http://archive.ubuntu... Done, but then 3. (=2 in the direction) Create GPG Keys How? I have only "Command line" no graphic. 4. Peharps this is too difficulty for beginners...I hope that the final Nexenta is a little easier to install. 5. But of course I want try. The earlier Nexenta was easier, perhaps in sources.list could be more for helping to start. Re: [osol-discuss] NexentaCP and X
NCP ships Xorg with foundation libraries only - no GUI applications, no GNOME, no KDE, no XFCE, no GUI integration... Complete Desktop-oriented distributions will appear later as a network of NCP derivatives.
