Boot in kmdb and try to find out where it hangs. It didn't hang before?

I quickly discovered that SchilliX-0.7.1 adds the `-vk' option by
default. So, it's already there. Typing F1-a after it hung had no
effect. Even when I booted with `-vkd', and then entered `:c' at the
kmdb prompt, it still hung at the same place. I suppose I need to set
some earlier breakpoints, but I don't know what they should be.

By the way, I'm booting it from an external USB DVD drive. This
laptop doesn't have an internal optical drive. The USB driver
may be involved in the hang as well.

I have the same problem with OS 134 booting from USB a flash stick.

If this is the same hang you see with older ON versions, you should be able to
disable IOMMU support the same way by editing the grub boot command line.

BTW: The current goals for Illumos are not primarily to fix left over bugs
from Oracle but to replace closed source by OpenSource. Last night, we made a
big step towards working i18n support - something you did not get from
OpenSolaris as OpenSolaris does not deliver dynamic loadable locale data.

SchilliX-0.7.1 is based on the latest
ONNV source published by Oracle.
This is build 146 with 16 additional putbacks.
Hello,
RFE: My last pull of ON_current had about 10 putbacks from the ON_148 open gate
on top of the ON_147 tagged release as of Aug 24, 2010.
I tried hg pull deveral times past August 18th but always get:
hg pull
pulling from ssh://a...@hg.opensolaris.org/hg/onnv/onnv-gate
searching for changes
no changes found
It seems that I did not remember correclty. There are 12 putbacks since b147,
but then thigs stopped:

If you like to compare SchilliX with OpenSolaris, nothing is missing.
If you compare SchilliX to Indiana, things look different.

From the discussion of Licenses, it seems that Indiana is not made of
redistributable code only.

The distro named OpenSolaris, originally created by the Indiana project,

though some of that is closed source binaries released under licenses like
the OSBL.

All packages containing code which is not redistributable are isolated

Given the fact that

I am a bit confused. I am willing to believe you but several people did write

You should be able to bundle the version provided by the pkg repository,
under the terms of the license there, which you can see by either
pkg info -r --license sunstudio12u1 | less
or going to the http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev/en/index.shtml, searching for
the package, then clicking on the package name in the results page, leading
to a URL such as:
http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev/info/0/sunstudio12u1%4012.1%2C5.11-0.111%3A20090617T225413Z

Those terms of course only apply to the packages with that license attached,
and not any other versions or install mechanisms, which would be covered by
the license provided with those download mechanisms. (Those versions may
include encumbered binaries that were not included in the redistributable
downloads - I don't recall if studio was one of the packages that had to be
changed that way for the pkg repo.)

Probably with the closed libc that you have as part of your 147 build.
However, these bits would *not* work with illumos.

No. pkg doesn't consider licensing considerations. You need to form
your own analysis by reading the licenses of the software you have
downloaded.
