Re: [osol-help] cp with jolly caracters

2008-04-08 Thread Richard L. Hamilton
Sounds like a limitation of FAT, esp. if the Solaris PCFS implementation isn't
doing the UTF-16 encoding of the long file names as it is (if I understand
correctly)
supposed to. (The Solaris PCFS implementation is also said to perform quite
poorly, and is in need of a major rewrite. I think someone was looking at that,
but don't recall what the latest status is, except that last I heard, it was
happening _very_ slowly, being more or less good enough as-is for most
paying customers, or whatever, and therefore getting very little in the
way of resources.)

Its not good enough for USB MEM sticks , probably because the
USB sticks are made by too many different maunfacturers and simply
are not  similar enough.

As the Days of the Floppy has now ended and USB mem sticks are used
for moving data around , this is a Emerging problem.

with folder you have to use -r ..

it could be easier if you execute the command and copy the result into here.

Hi,

Do this and provide the results:

df -kh
mount
ls -l copia
ls -l /rmdisk/noname
cp -r copia /rmdisk/noname

by the way ... the rmdisk/noname is a usb pen?

I'm not sure, but it can be something with your locale setting.

I'm using:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TIME=en_US.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

touch andrà
cp andrà daró
ls -l andrà
-rw-r--r--   1 aalves   aalves 0 Apr  4 16:48 andrà
ls -l daró
