Hi, Pike packages for openSUSE and SLES are now available at: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Cloud:/OpenStack:/Pike/ We maintain + test the packages for SLES 12SP3 and openSUSE Leap 42.3. [openstack-dev] [openstack] [charms] Openstack with OVN
Hello all, Resending this mail since I think there might have been some error sending it the last time. I am looking to develop an openstack bundle which uses OVN as the SDN. I have been reading : https://docs.openstack.org/charm-guide/latest/ I have also read : https://docs.openstack.org/networking-ovn/latest/install/ index.html As far as I understand, this will require me to replace the "neutron-openvswitch" charm in the openstack base bundle. However, I am not able to exactly understand what all I will have to rewrite / replace to make this work. Specifically, I need to make neutron work only as an API instead of the full blown SDN. Also, in the above doc, its mentioned that we have to run some setup on "controller nodes". How does the term "controller node" map to the charm? Thank you for helping out, and sorry if these doubts seem trivial Thanks again, Aakash __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev

My hope is we can create some ad-hoc collaborations between projects without having everyone involved at the same time. I don't have any specific schedule on the Monday & Tuesday (I'll be walking between rooms and see where I can contribute) - we might want to block a 2h slot in our agenda to make sure we can meet. After looking into the retirement process, and discussing it with fungi, I think we’re going to have to wait to do anything for now. It will be complicated to remove the contents of the master branch now without following the full retirement process, and that will make it impossible for us to maintain stable releases for the library through the end of Pike's support lifetime (because the gate jobs will all be turned off). So for now https://review.openstack.org/#/c/498543/1 marks the library as obsolete and https://bugs.launchpad.net/oslosphinx/+bug/1713543 will help us remember to follow the retirement process later. One thing I'd be worried about is that not only maintaining this doc will be very costly (we're now only talking of few services out of big tent..), will cover just basic architectures, but also if someone actually uses it, it will make things like upgrade quite hard. If it's only meant to be PoC installation guide, we should clearly say so, if we mean it to be prod-ready, we need things like HA configuration, database clustering, network architecture and so on.. Re: [openstack-dev] [magnum] Weekly meetings
Hello, As discussed in last week's meeting [0], this week and next we will discuss plans about Queens and review blueprints. So, if you want to add discussion items please bring them up tomorrow or next week in our weekly meeting. If for any reason, you can't attend you can start a thread in the mailing list. Also this week, we will go through our blueprint list and clean it up from obsolete blueprints. Finally, I would like to ask you to review this blueprint [1] about cluster federation, add your ideas and comments in the review. [openstack-dev] [nova]notification update week 35
Hi, After a couple of weeks of silence here is the status update / focus settings mail for w35. Bugs As there was no critical bug for Pike in the notification area there was not much progress in the bugs below. [Low] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1696152 nova notifications use nova-api as binary name instead of nova-osapi_compute Agreed not to change the binary name in the notifications. Instead we make an enum for that name to show that the name is intentional. The patch was split to two parts: * https://review.openstack.org/#/c/487126 rename binary to source in versioned notifications * https://review.openstack.org/#/c/476538 Use enum value instead of string service name While I was preparing this mail both patches has been approved. [Medium] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1699115 api.fault notification is never emitted Still no response on the ML thread about the way forward. http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-dev/2017-June/118639.html [High] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1706563 TestRPC.test_cleanup_notifier_null fails with timeout [High] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1685333 Fatal Python error: Cannot recover from stack overflow. - in py35 unit test job The first bug is just a duplicate of the second. It seems the TetRPC test suite has a way to end up in an infinite recusion. I don't know about a way to reproduce it localy or to change the gate env so that python prints out the full stack trace to see where the problematic call is. Also adding extra log messages won't help as a timed out test doesn't have the log messages printed to the logs. So this bug is pretty stuck. [Undecided] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1700496 Notifications are emitted per-cell instead of globally Devstack config has already been modified so notifications are emitted to the top level MQ. It seems that only a nova cells doc update is needed that tells the admin how to configure the transport_url for the not ifications. Versioned notification transformation - BP for Queens are approved, some patch was already re-proposed to the new BP. I think we have to start reviewing those soon. https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/versioned-notification-transformation-queens Searchlight integration --- I opened a follow up bp for Queens: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/nova/+spec/additional-notification-fields-for-searchlight-queens I left it in drafting state as I expect the Searchlight team to come back with some feedback and / or extra needs. I pinged the Searchlight folks on IRC to get some feedback on this BP. Small improvements -- * https://review.openstack.org/#/c/428199/ Improve assertJsonEqual error reporting. This is on the gate now. :) * https://review.openstack.org/#/q/topic:refactor-notification-samples Factor out duplicated notification sample data This is a start of a longer patch series to deduplicate notification sample data. The third patch already shows how much sample data can be deleted from nova tree. We added a minimal hand rolled json ref implementation to notification sample test as the existing python json ref implementations are not well maintained. I will rebase the series and resolve the merge conflicts then I will ask for feedback about the validity of the current direction. Weekly meeting -- After a long pause let's have a short subteam meeting at the usual place and time: Tuesday 17:00 UTC on openstack-meeting-4. https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20170829T17 Cheers, gibi __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev

Re: [openstack-dev] [vitrage] Collectd - to - Vitrage setup issues
Hi Greg, I’m less familiar with the collectd configuration and the events that it sends. Regarding the collectd_conf.yaml, it is definitely missing. You should add a /etc/vitrage/collectd_conf.yaml file that looks like that: collectd: - collectd_host: type: name: - collectd_host: … This file maps a Collectd resource to the corresponding resource in OpenStack. Only resources that are listed in this file will have their alarms imported to Vitrage. Next, you should add a reference to this file in /etc/vitrage/vitrage.conf: [collectd] config_file = /etc/vitrage/collectd_conf.yaml Then you should restart vitrage-graph. Let me know if it helped, Ifat. From: "Waines, Greg" Date: Wednesday, 23 August 2017 at 21:19 I am trying to get collectd to report some alarms to vitrage in a devstack setup, I am using a devstack created on a late version of ocata. And my devstack with vitrage appears to be working ok otherwise; e.g. I can create VMs, and raise fake alarms using “vitrage event post -type=compute.host.down ...” or with “aodh alarm create ... resource_id=instance-uuid” ... and they get reported fine in vitrage. UNFORTUNATELY not seeing anything in vitrage from collectd, and don’t believe I’m seeing anything even from collectd, for example from the syslog output plugin. I’ve attached the following files: ( not sure if these get distributed on mailing list ) · /etc/collectd/collectd.conf <-- do these look ok ? · /etc/vitrage/vitrage.conf <-- do these look ok ? · /var/log/syslog ... around the time when I updated collectd.conf and vitrage.conf and restarted collectd and vitrage-graph oQUESTIONS • NOTE THE FOLLOWING ERRORS IN THE SYSLOG FILE ... where do I get the collectd_conf.yaml file from ? And scalable horizontally, so… Hi Julien, Can you give some reference to Gnocchi's performance measurements? I have seen you presentation from the last Summit [1] but I cannot find information about Gnocchi's write throughput. In the issues slide you note the slow post API. The API responsiveness test shows that the API can handle correctly up to 2500 instances. You collect around 60 metrics per instance and use polling interval of 10 minutes. That would translate to: 2500 instances * 60 metrics/instance / 600 s = 250 metrics/s Are these assumptions correct? > Gaps to be discussed are here: > https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/ptg-denver-etsi-nfv-tst003-gaps-explained i added a note in etherpad but it seems you want Ceilometer (+Gnocchi if you need storagE) and not Panko. Panko only handles storage of events (more metadata focused data) while Ceilometer handles the actual generation of both events and metrics, the latter being the one you want it seems. Gnocchi is used for optimised time-series metric storage. unfortunately, i don't believe anyone from Telemetry teams are attending the PTG but we can be reached on ML or #openstack-telemetry. cheers, -- gord __ OpenStack Development Mailing List (not for usage questions) Unsubscribe: openstack-dev-requ...@lists.openstack.org?subject:unsubscribe http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openstack-dev

[openstack-dev] [neutron] [classifier] Asking for feedback regarding Classification Types
Hi Neutron, The CCF team has been discussing what protocols should be supported on the first version of the CCF (Common Classification Framework). A potential list exhaustive list is available at [1]. However, this is likely overkill in terms of protocols that will actually be used for classification purposes at the API layer in Neutron (Neutron Stadium). So think of this mail as a call for protocols that definitely have to be implemented in the CCF so that interested services/projects can consume from it.
