I got it to work by setting:

SOFTVIRTUALLIMIT="0"

in /etc/sysconfig/ulimit and rebooting.

I am trying to run picasa 2.2.2820 on openSUSE 10.2 and I am, so far, 
unsuccessfull. 

After installing it, I start it and nothing happens. Then, based on somebody's 
suggestion from a thread from the factory mailing list, I tried:

Same thing as running it from the command line as root. Nothing happens. 
Nothing happens as well when I try to run it from k3b itself (it is, indeed, 
a new menu option in the Settings called "Setup System Permissions" which, as 
far as I could tell, is just a kdesu kcmshell k3bsetup2 --lang en_US).

Any other ideas?

Umm, it is not included in the k3b that comes in Packman.

There is no setup module in the KDE Control Center. Can you tell me exactly 
how to navigate to it in kcontrol?

When I try to run that command from the command line, as root, I get the 
following:

What's interesting is that if I try to run it as a user, it is executed,

as my screen is not big enough for the whole thing to fit on it. 

So given the fact that it works as user, but not as root, I suspect a path 
issue. Any idea where are these modules stored?

Thanks, I knew about Cygwin, I even have it installed on a couple of machines. 
However, for some smaller tasks, the full-blown Cygwin can be a bit too much. 
Still, it's a cool and very usefull project.

I had the same issue trying to connect from outside my local lan through my 
router and I found out that besides the port 22, I had to forward the TCP 
port 5000 as well to the internal machine where the nx server is running. 

And I _think_ that I got this port number by looking at the nx logs which can 
be found in ~/.nx. I don't know if this 5000 is a 
known/dedicated/configurable or random port number.

However, now I get the following message:

cdrdao will be run without root privileges
It is highly recommended to configure cdrdao to run with root privileges to 
increase the overall stability of the burning process.
Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem.

(As far as I understand from this, it works just well the way it is now, just 
that it is recommended to setuid cdrdao). 

So I press on the "Start K3bSetup2" button and nothing happens. Trying to 
run /opt/kde3/bin/k3bsetup as root from the konsole gives me the following:

When I start k3b, it "greets" me with the following message:

Mp3 Audio Decoder plugin not found.
K3b could not load or find the Mp3 decoder plugin. This means that you will 
not be able to create Audio CDs from Mp3 files. Many Linux distributions do 
not include Mp3 support for legal reasons.
Solution: To enable Mp3 support, please install the MAD Mp3 decoding library 
as well as the K3b MAD Mp3 decoder plugin (the latter may already be 
installed but not functional due to the missing libmad). Some distributions 
allow installation of Mp3 support via an online update tool (i.e. SuSE's 
YOU).

I understand that it needs some k3b-mad package, but I couldn't find it 
anywhere. I have packman and guru, as well as the non-oss repositories. And 
I've installed everything related to mad:

Yes. From the opensuse webpage:

The DVD contains the packages of the 5 CDs and the Non-OSS Add On CD. The 
retail DVD being a double-layer contains more packages.

By the way, do you know of any "print-at-request" web site (preferably in 
Germany or Switzerland) that will let you upload a PDF and will send you a 
printed book? I think lulu.com does this, but it's in the States and I 
suppose the transport fees to Europe are quite big.
