[opensuse-factory] 10.3Alpha5
Hey SuSE; So far Alpha 5 has very welcome new feature. That is - during a install the install script request to setup the Network before off loading files.rpms from the DVD. It is good because something is missing from the DVD/CD Yast will go look for it before stating the file is missing. It did miss getting a copy of the latest Release Notes. However, a set of Release Notes did showup after setting up "User" info. First reboot the VGA= information was not supplied based on my original setup. I noted a KDE Updater effort to upgrade the same file that the Setup update did. already update. Problem!! when I went back to a F2 - F6 tty session the LCD just flashes. F7 or F8 fail to return to KDE. Further more the machine is lockup. I have not set the runlevel options yet. This machine is a LapTop HP NC6400/Intel 945 GM/512M memory- SuSE SLED worked correctly. I set it via SaX2 from SuSE's setup 24 bit to 16 bit and so far it is working. -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email: " [EMAIL PROTECTED] " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " [EMAIL PROTECTED] " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 Did you know? [opensuse-factory] http install
Hi, Just re-installed a little via-box with 10.2. After booting, i tried to add the option: install=suse.a-domani.nl/10.2, my local install & update server. It looks like during install, IPv6 is not recognized. Neither by name, nor by adres can the installationsource be reached. After (DVD-)installation, i can set my installation-source without any problem to suse.a-domani.nl/10.2 and update.a-domani.nl/10.2, which are ipv6-only websites Is this intentionally, or a possible enhancement ;-) Hans -- pgp-id: 926EBB12 pgp-fingerprint: BE97 1CBF FAC4 236C 4A73 F76E EDFC D032 926E BB12 Registered linux user: 75761 (http://counter.li.org) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In general, I agree that we should have only one solution and do it right with this one. But I see that there are different use-cases for XEN and openVZ. XEN can be used for supporting complete different systems, while openVZ is usually used to create effizient multiple instances of the same system. bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

To avoid such problems, we created the "Project Modell" in the build service. This means that everything can get available there under the way and control by the people who contributing to that project. But this does not mean that everything has to go to Factory. There are even additional rules which needs to be fullfilled for Factory like: * common user interesst ( I think this is true for openVZ ). * quality and esp. security design flaws needs to be checked before * Maintainance needs to be ensured for two years. That needs a person who understand the code internals and can backport or create fixes for the version which was part of the release. Can we ensure this ? bye adrian -- Adrian Schroeter SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There is already the yast2-metapackage-handler in factory what will be used for this (also). You can already create .ymp files on the server side to make use of it. Adding such a functionality in RC (Thu, Sep 20: > openSUSE 10.3 Release Candidate 1 release) gives us only 14 days for > finding and fixing bugs. It's extremely short time. I guess you are talking about adding the functionality into the installer (which must be done before RC, while the list of availble repos can be updated during RC phase) while Bernhard is talking about creating the packman repository. The integration into installer is being worked on, however, I cann't promise any particular Alpha/Beta release which will contain it. Ah, now I see I was misunderstood. I absolutely don't want Packman/Guru team to prepare packages for Alpha/Beta/Factory. I meant possibility of one-click-adding Packman or Guru repo to "Installation sources" using some YaST's module. Just to make normal user's life simpler. Example: someone want to play DivX, so we say sth like: 1) Open YaST 2) Click "New source" 3) Check "Packman" 4) Click "Add" 5) Install "Mplayer" using "Software Management" Over. -- Rafał Miłecki
