[opensuse-factory] Open Office 2.2
Hey Group; Any one downloaded OpenOffice 2.2 from Sun and installed it? I have downloaded and installed OO for years. No problems However, this time it will not EXIT the program using close, Exit and the upper right corner X. Chasing the problem has brought me to the command env, ldd and strace. It seems the default version of java is the cause of the problem conflicting with the java version from OO version. strace info __ /usr/lib/ooo-2.2/program/javaldx /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5, 128) = 12 __ rpm -qa | grep java java-1_5_0-sun-1.5.0_update12-11 -SuSE A7 kdebindings3-javascript-3.5.7-27 - SuSE A7 openoffice.org-javafilter-2.2.1-9161 from OO's RPM files java-1_5_0-sun-plugin-1.5.0_update12-11 - SuSE A7 Has anyone else installed Open Office 2.2? -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : [EMAIL PROTECTED] VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador http://counter.li.org #279316 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[opensuse-factory] slow 3D and no tablet/touchscreen in X60 with 10.3b1
Hi, My installation of 10.3 beta 1 on Thinkpad X60 went well. The only major problem was that the lack of recognition of the wireless card (Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG), which I reported in bugzilla (Bug 301076). Two minor things I don't know how to report are: 1) During Saving Remote Administration Configuration, while Downloading http://download.opensuse.org/.../inst-source-extra/content; I got a pop-up error: Error Download failed: Media exception I OKed and installation continued. 2) During Running Internet Connection Test another pop-up error: Error Cannot install downloaded release notes. RPM signature check failed. But the test was successful nonetheless. Beside these minor issues, the main issue is with graphics. The graphics card is Intel 945 GM. I did not activate 3D acceleration right away and I got 720 FPM from glxgears at first. After activating 3D acceleration through in SaX2, the rate improved to only 840 FPM only. In 10.1 I can get 1200 FPM with glxgears on the same hardware. So, 3D acceleration is not working properly in 10.3b1 for this card. Second issue is the tablet/touchscreen. This X60 laptop has a so-called MultiTouch screen that works as tablet (with pen) and as touchscreen (without pen). I tried to activate the tablet (Wacom ISDV4 tablet PC (serial)) in SaX2, but it does not recognize the digital pen. I also tried the existing types of touchscreen (no Wacom on the list) with COM-1, but none worked either. Should I report the tablet and touchscreen separately in bugzilla? Is there a repository that contains more recent Xorg versions? -- Carlos FL Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[opensuse-factory] software management and update
I was glad to see the import/export feature come back to Yast2/Sofware Management ( I missed it much in 10.1 and I skipped 10.2). In Online Update, I installed both a kernel patch and the update-test-optional patch. I got 2 different behaviours following this update. When I reopened Online Update, the kernel patch was not listed anymore under Installable Patches (as expected), but the update-test-optional was still listed under Installable Patches, only this time with a check mark beside it. Is this the expected behaviour? -- Carlos FL Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[opensuse-factory] Re: [opensuse-project] Re: openSUSE 10.3 beta 1: problem with libata and hard drive geometry
On Sat, 18 Aug 2007, Michel Salim wrote: On 18/08/07, Michel Salim [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I tried running the openSUSE 10.3b1 installer (using the GNOME x86 CD), and ran across a problem with detected disk geometry on a Thinkpad T41p, with no other OS installed. I have had problems in the past with openSUSE 10.2: fdisk detects a C/H/S geometry of 9729/255/63, while the kernel itself would detect a much higher C value, with H=16. On my first install things worked fine for a while, until the system locked up during use a few days afterwards (running the latest kernel), which is probably due to the kernel accessing the disk (and writing to it) using the wrong geometry. On 10.2 I can just pass 'hda=9729,255,63' to force the kernel to use the same geometry used to partition the disk. On 10.3, I tried passing 'sda=9729,255,63' but to no avail; YaST would warn that parted could not access the disk and thus I could not touch the partition table, and dropping to a console and checking with fdisk shows that only 9300-something cylinders are detected. 9364 cylinders, the rest presumably gobbled up by the Hidden Protected Area. Funnily, setting it to disabled in the BIOS does not affect things. I tried using hwprobe=-modules.pata as specified in the release notes, but now encounter another problem: YaST would read the hard drive OK, and would verify the installation CD OK as well, but after that, could not find the installation medium, and would continue asking for openSUSE 10.3 CD 1 to be inserted. This looks like a YaST bug -- is there a way to circumvent this? e.g. manually mounting the CD in a specific directory. Failing that, can I instruct hwprobe to just skip pata for ide0 (hard drive is attached as hda) but use pata for ide1 (optical drive was hdc), and thus YaST would find the optical drive where it expected it? This about openSUSE 10.3 is better on the factory list.
