I did that, took the newest ones, but forgot to update sax, so it could
not read the info correctly ;-(
Config would be used after restart..
After restart no 'X' server wse...
no tty also...
ctrl+alt-backspace does not take me back to tty1..
ctrl+alt-del does restart the box though...

At that point the radeon driver did have 3D support, but after enabling
compiz, it didn't anymore, only 2D, and verry slow..

I wished i could say the same
I am not able to get visual on 10.2...
I am able to alter everything from 10.3, but I am out of knowledge at
this point
Does anyone know what log to check to find the cause

I had this problem, too. It was not possible to load the readon.ko driver. The
solutions was to remove fglrx.ko which was still there after uninstalling the
fglrx rpm.

Compiz works fine after that, except of white frames around all unframed
windows (tooltips, menus, kicker).

Reinstall all xorg and mesa packages. Maybe the ati driver has
removed/unlinked some needed libraries.

xdm is crippled, one can only log out of a session.
This won't be fixed.

All the efforts to get the radeon driver to start 'X' in 3D acceleration
fail. ;-(
2D works...
I do not know how to get 3D acceleration accomplished.
Adding the suggested lines to xorg.conf, cause the xserver to not start,
and return to tty1.
sax2 recovers a cmo cmc monitor, which does not exist on this system,
but can easily be corrected to the right monitor: Videoseven.
Offcourse it overwrites xorg.conf, and again, i am were i started.

Reading the wiki shows me there's no 3d desktop for everybody, helas.
Shame i belong to the group that is shut out.. ;-)

Do i have to change the displaymanager to xdm after adding Load "dri" to

I do not know what the atidriver fd up after uninstalling, but
something is missing in the kernel..

simply adding load "dri" to the module section in xorg.conf, prevents
'x' from starting...

after logging into tty1, which was possible after adding "true" behind
load "dri", i found out no xserver was running, and started up sax2.
Offcourse it did come up with his own server, and overwrote all tha
changes made to xorg.conf.

I also noticed that before starting sax, and looking at xorg.conf from
10.3, that my monitor had changed from videoseven to cmc (?)...

So uninstalling the proprietary ati driver *did* realy change some
things, most annoying. :-(

What could be done to find out which files are missing, without
reinstalling 10.2?

It's not much to do, to get aiglx to work. It's simply a little change

When compiz doesn't work, berryl doesn't, too. Both use the same base.
The proprietary ati driver has no aiglx support, when xgl doesn't work,
too, you can forget it. Why using proprietary driver, when the free one
works better?

Forget Xgl, use AIGLX. It's supported by the free radeon driver which is
part of SUSE, also works here in 10.2 with berryl (Radeon 9600
mobility). Remove the proprietary fglrx driver.

Scherminformatie
Fabrikant: ATI Technologies Inc
  Model: ATI RADEON 9550 (RV350 LX 4153)
  Stuurprogramma: fglrx (3D-ondersteuning)

Your graphics card is not known to be supported by Xgl. However, it does
appear to support 3D acceleration.

To enable Xgl, press "Enable Desktop Effects" below. This will log you
out and return you to the login screen.

If the login screen does not come back up, you will need to disable Xgl
from the command line by logging in as root and running:

gnome-xgl-switch --disable-xgl
