Yes, I know, but I want to probe the init scripts, because after
installing ivman, I do'nt found any ivman daemon.

I proved to launch ivman (/usr/bin/ivman-launch), and I got after
inserting a data dvd:

[opensuse-factory] Automounting in opensuse - explanation please

2006-09-25 Thread Sid Boyce
Google search revealed problems, but no solutions or documentation on
how this is supposed to work and I'm puzzled as I'm seeing different
behaviours. On openSUSE 10.1 the cdrom/DVD devices are not being created
(DVD RW installed) and 10.2Alpha4 (CDRW installed) /dev/cdrom is
created. Checking all boxes, /etc/udev/rules.d/65-cdrom.rules on all are
OK and on 10.2Alpha4 only there is also 60-cdrom_id.rules. Upgrading a
10.1 x86 box to hal(0.5.8_git20060822-3) and udev (0.99-3) built
locally from factory source RPM's didn't change behaviour.

Thanks and Regards
Sid.

It is triggered in HAL.

GNOME and KDE use their builtin methods, if you need the cmdline,
use halmount from package ivman.

 Tha package autofs is necessary?

Not for the type of automounting described in this thread. For classic
automounting of remote file systems, autofs should still be used. This
thread only refers to local devices be mounted under /media.

I have the autofs package installed, but autofs is not running. I did
try using autofs suitably editing /etc/auto.master and /etc/auto.misc,
still ls /media/cdrom returned no such file or directory or returns
nothing if I manually create /media/cdrom. On the 10.1 x86_64 box,
putting a CD in the drive, it appears in My Computer, the usual KDE
popup appears and it is opened in konqueror as system:/media/hdc and
/media/CND5/ is created with the contents of the CD in it, autofs is not
running either.

Sid.
