[opensuse-factory] GNOME: please report post /opt/gnome-/usr errors in your $HOME

2007-01-25 Thread Stanislav Brabec
Hallo.

Just now, the move to /usr in Factory and GNOME:UNSTABLE is nearly
complete.

We are able to test and fix remaining references to /opt/gnome, but
there is another problem, which cannot be guessed by any way:

References to /opt/gnome in home directories.

If your package setup is broken after move and you suspect, that the
reason is hadwiring of /opt/gnome in $HOME configuration foles, please
report about it.

I guess that we have to ignore one time problems, (e. g. linphone
forgets predefined ring tones and reverts to defaults, saved session
does not find applications), but we should find situation, when
application tends to use /opt/gnome forever without any user visible way
to fix it or when it loses functions after move by not finding required
stuff.

We currently have only one known issue opened:

Good to hear... as I knew there was ongoing work, I did not look to
much on errors in gnome these days... thank you for announcing this
here.

So let's start to find all these things and report them... Otherwise
Stanislav will start to think about a holiday :-)

Hi,
I'm sorry the relase 2.16.1 is really unstable?
I know that tha gnome unstable brunch is at 2.17.5, why we don't start
with the 2.17.x testing?

2.16.1 partially moved to /usr was really unstable.

It seems to succeed, so we can start to update to 2.17.x. It should
happen soon.

we could write a script that reads GConf database and
replaces /opt/gnome with /usr, as well as common GNOME directories,
like .gnome2, .config/autostart, etc

Not sure if it's worth the effort if we only have one problem, but if we
start getting lots of bugs we might think about writing it.

On the other hand, it will fix even mentioned minor issues - correct
session restoring, linphone will remember ringtones, nautilus
backgrounds etc.
