If a 10.3-DOM-0 only runs 10.3-DOM-u's it's certainly a bugzilla entry. Current 10.1 and 10.2 dom-0's run every kind of DOM-U, not just 10.1-dom-u, but ubuntu and freebsd as well. Well, I still have the same problem, at least when using the .iso file as source, it can't find the kernel. I looked in y2log (>3000 lines just for this install) and found some things referring to descr/packages. It seems like on 10.3 it's no "package" file, just "package.{de,en,fr,...}.gz" and when the 10.2 installer looks it fails with a missing "package". Checked on the 10.2 dvd and there it's a package file so there it's ok. Remember that it's a 10.2 installer looking on a 10.3 install dvd, that might be why it doesn't work directly. Since auto extracting the kernel doesn't work I did it manually and did a "Other os" install. It worked better but still no go, the console window starts up and shows a few things before it just hangs. Network install: I loopback mount the .iso on a different system and export it. I set the custom installation source url to point to it and hit next Popup that no kernel found Mount the same nfs on dom0 and can see /mnt/boot/x86_64/vmlinuz-xen test the same thing with 10.2 dvd and that works. [opensuse-factory] Xen domU startup fails on 2.6.20 (patch attached)
Xen domains cannot be started on the 2.6.20.2-2 SuSE kernel - they crash immediately after xm create. This happens no matter what Xen hypervisor version is in use, but it's new to 2.6.20. I've attached a patch to privcmd.c to fix this problem. When the Xen tools try to copy the kernel image and page tables to a new domU, the IOCTL_PRIVCMD_MMAP is used to mmap the domain's pages into xend. Unfortunately, some changes to the page flags in 2.6.20 cause the kernel to configure the mapping of the foreign domain's pages as a copy-on-write private mapping (despite MAP_SHARED being used). This means the domain builder never actually modifies the physical pages, even though it thinks everything is fine. The patch is simple: add VM_INSERTPAGE to the page flags in privcmd_mmap(). This forces vma_wants_writenotify() to leave the page alone, rather than marking it read only to trigger a copy-on-write. I don't think this has any side effects other than telling the kernel not to mess with the PTE bits after we set them. --- linux-2.6.20-mtyrel/drivers/xen/privcmd/privcmd.c.orig 2007-03-17 02:37:32.929101000 -0400 +++ linux-2.6.20-mtyrel/drivers/xen/privcmd/privcmd.c 2007-03-17 02:42:26.890256006 -0400 @@ -234,8 +234,15 @@ if (xen_feature(XENFEAT_auto_translated_physmap)) return -ENOSYS; - /* DONTCOPY is essential for Xen as copy_page_range is broken. */ - vma->vm_flags |= VM_RESERVED | VM_IO | VM_DONTCOPY; + /* +* DONTCOPY is essential for Xen as copy_page_range is broken. +* +* INSERTPAGE is needed to prevent vma_wants_writenotify from +* marking the page read-only so as to trap initial write attempts. +* The kernel gets very confused with foreign domain pages and +* erroneously tries to make a copy-on-write duplicate. +*/ + vma->vm_flags |= VM_RESERVED | VM_IO | VM_DONTCOPY | VM_INSERTPAGE; vma->vm_ops = &privcmd_vm_ops; vma->vm_private_data = NULL; - Matt --- Matt T. As release date is getting closer, and xen is going to be a part of sles-10, i wonder if anybody else had problems with xen. At work, i was asked to have a look at virtualisation, and because of my background, i prefer xen above vmware. On 10.0 systems 32/64-bit, xen (vs 3.0) seems stable enough. However on beta-6, beta-8 and rc1 (XEN 3.0.2) situation is highly unstable. Disks on the dom-U are not seen, loop-back devices still exist after dom-U is gone, verry picky about config files. I found that if one makes the slightest typo in a config file, it is no use to re-launch a dom-U, sometimes it works, often not. Mostly one has to start dom-0 (reboot) Anybody else testing xen? Re: [opensuse-factory] XEN and 3rd party drivers (nvidia)
I mean that it's a bug of the Nvidia module driver. You has probe to recompile the Nvidia module with the Xen-kernel source installed? (the nvidia installation script makes it automatic, when the driver do'nt match the installed kernel). 2006/4/13, Chad Groneman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Does anyone have an answer for this? Re: [opensuse-factory] XEN and 3rd party drivers (nvidia)
Does anyone have an answer for this? I want to run XEN and XGL simultaneously... Currently can't compile the NVidia driver with the XEN kernel. I see there's a new NVidia driver, but NVidia's site is having issues, so I can't get it yet. If I don't get an answer maybe I'll bug Stephan directly. [opensuse-factory] XEN and 3rd party drivers (nvidia)
Hi, My observation / question is twofold. In playing with XEN, I've found that I can't start an X session, because of my NVidia driver that works with my regular kernel. The NVidia kernel module doesn't load when I use the XEN kernel. Is there an easy way to have graphical XEN and a 3D regular boot? I could use two xorg.conf files I suppose, but I'd like to not worry about it. Next question, is there a kernel-xen-source RPM? I didn't see it in factory, and don't believe the kernel-source RPM goes with the -xen kernel, like it does for the -default, -smp, -bigsmp kernels. I could be wrong. I know this setup would not be commonly used. Thanks for humoring me. Chad - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello, As but https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=158831 xen-libs are missing from beta8. Could you make it available somehow? Like the fontconfig fixes for earlier betas. Or should I install the packages made for SLES available at http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfcontent/downloads.php/xenpreview/SUSE%20Linux%20Enterprise%20Server/10/i586/ But then I would have a mixed environment, if it installs at all...
