[opensuse-packaging] gpg is dead. Long live gpg

2007-06-19 Thread Klaus Singvogel
Hello,
we're (Lukáš Tinkl and myself) want to stop supporting gpg (aka.
GnuPG). Reason is, that developing of gpg has stopped (only in bugfix
mode), and use gpg2 instead, as it seems to be getting a stable
version now.

Therefore we are doing a switch in openSUSE 10.3 RSN:
- gpg will be dropped
- gpg2 will be renamed to gpg

We didn't noticed any problems regarding backward compatibility,
but we weren't able to do verey single test case. :-)

If your package contains a interface toward gpg, like YaST
Online-Update mode, please check this move out. Please fill out
bugreports on bugzilla, if you think there are.

Thanks for your patience.

Regards,
Klaus.

why renaming it?
to fullfil old Requires a simple:

Provides: gpg = %{version}-%{release}

would be enough. and everybody would know that the gpg package is dead
and that we only ship gpg2 now. imho this rename would be useless.

ok.

not ok.

We didn't noticed any problems regarding backward compatibility,

man gpg2
No manual entry for gpg2

Is this worth a bugreport or will you fix it with the next submission?

I'm not maintainer for gpg2. Please send any such suggestions
directly to him. :-)

I already told maintainer about missing documents, which were
fullfilled by gpg so far. But I didn't get any response from him yet.

It's up to you. :-) But if you want to be sure that it get changed, I
would suggest to do the bugreport (it's protocolld then). But as said
before, I never was and aint the maintainer of gpg2, so I cannot
decide.

Klaus.
