Re: [openthinclient-user] Problems with Display on Pales

2016-03-02 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi Julian,

as you already figured out the appliance password is: „openthinclient"

You could have saved yourself the time if you had taken a look at the „Install"
section in our appliance download section where it is already documented.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/openthinclient/files/virtual-appliance/

There you can also download old appliances. (Ceres 1.1 or Consus 2.0)
Please note that we don’t support these versions anymore.

Regarding your flickering issue with Pales
What kind of graphic card / ThinClient hardware do you use?

If all possible I would suggest that you open a bug report on Github.
https://github.com/openthinclient/os-core/issues

The old installers likely won’t help since they don’t run with current
Java 8 versions.

Best Regards,
Bernd

Re: [openthinclient-user] Update OTC-appliance-Consus

2014-07-24 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi Alexander,

thank you for reporting this issue.

Unfortunately we can confirm this scenario on our test machine when
all packages are updated.

The UpdateManager tells me that 124 package have to updated. After
update and restart - the VM is no more usable.

Just for clarification. Did you only update the java package or all
packages before the issue occured?

The desktop is now doubled. The icons are on the right side too. When
I open otc-manager the window is doubled and not usable.

Any hints/solution where the problem is?
It seems there is an issue with the vmware-tools. However reinstalling
them does not solve it during my quick test. Deinstalling them should
resolve the double screen.

Is it _not_ recommend to update the xubuntu?
Generally we _don't recommend_ to update the Virtual Appliance in a
production environment if you are not an experienced linux user.

This is based on past experiences when the bundled java packages were
upgraded but the installed openthinclient software was kept at an old
version.

If you still want to upgrade please:
- Make a Backup (Snapshot) first
- Check if openthinclient version works with updatable java version.
(you can ask here in the maillinglist or check in our wiki)

This said it should be noted that normal package upgrades should work in
most cases since that is essentiality what we are doing when a new
Virtual Appliance is released.

For now I would recommend to revert to the latest vm version which does
not have the double screen issue.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards

Re: [openthinclient-user] Error convert from virtualbox to vmware

2013-02-09 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi Stefan,

a new version (otc-appliance-1.0.0-9.zip) is now available.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openthinclient/files/openthinclient/openthinclient-vm/otc-appliance-1.0.0-9.zip/download

It should work of ouf the box with VMware solutions.

Please test it and give a short feedback if it works in your
environment. Thanks.

Re: [openthinclient-user] Thin client Boot Issue

2010-02-19 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi again,

...working within a VMware infrastructure for testing purposes before
 deployment ?

As i recall some older versions of vmware had some problems with the PXE boot.
But you are much further into boot process when the client stops...
Which version are you using right now?

A look at the logfile of the virtual client could provide some answers:
http://openthinclient.org/Troubleshooting?structure=documentation#Access_logs_from_the_manager

Otherwise http://www.virtualbox.org/ works quite well.

Re: [openthinclient-user] Thin client Boot Issue

2010-02-18 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi,

Good day I am having an issue with my openthin client deployment, currently
my thinclient in its boot process gets past the Splash screen but then stops
 at “Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom…”

What could have gone wrong with my installation, it seems to be missing the
 boot OS.

This error is normally a sign that the system has no driver for your
specific network card.
So my question is what kind of hardware do you use?

There is also a slightly updated version for atom chipsets available
in our unstable/experimental
repositories:
http://openthinclient.org/Packages?structure=#Activate_unstable_repositories

Also I have another question, is it possible to configure a thin client to
boot into a RDP connection ?

The rdesktop application can be configured to autostart and single-sign-on is
also present, if thats what your asking for?

Bernd Aufrecht

Re: [openthinclient-user] [Openthinclient-user] VNC Configuration

2009-12-21 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi Jennifer,

Sorry for the late reply. I am trying to catch up
on some of the questions on the list.

Update: Still working on this.  If anyone has any information as to a)
what the default password might be and b) how to change/set the password
via the otc manager, assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Where is
the sudo password pulled/set for the commandline in otc?  Thanks.

The default password is foobar, I added a wiki entry on how to change it.

Kind Regards,

Bernd

Re: [openthinclient-user] printer setup with ppd-File, Screensaver and little clock

2009-12-19 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi  Matthias,

 1. I got a printer, but it's not supported in the given list. Fortunatly
I got the .ppd-File, which is already in use to print on my server
itselfs. How or better where have I put this file to use it with the
thinclients? Is it right, when I chose this file with lpadmin and the
 option -p ?

The option -P specifies the PPD File.

To use a custom ppd file open the manager and select your printer.
Then select the option raw from the printer list. The last step is to add the
right ppd file to the additional lpadmin options below.

There you need to add the option -P followed by the path to the ppd file.
For example:

-P /var/tcos/custom/BR5250_2_GPL.ppd

For this example the ppd file has been copied to the path:
/opt/openthinclient/server/default/data/nfs/root/custom/

on the openthinclient server so that every client gets the
same ppd file after booting.

For testing purposes it might be easier to temporary use the
home directory (home/tcos) of one user.

  3. Is it possible to set a screensaver on the thinclients?

Not at the moment. There is currently no screensaver installed.

 2. I need a little clock on the desktops. Is there possibility to put
 something on it?

We are aware of this feature request. Currently there is no clock applet
available. Also many of our customers use a remote desktop software
to connect to a application or operating system that already provides one.

Kind regards,
Bernd

Re: [openthinclient-user] How to clean home directory and firefox cache on every reboot

2009-12-17 Thread Bernd Aufrecht
Hi Matthias,

Because, when I change the settings as it's written in the documentation
(good and fast job!), I will lose my addons from firefox for example the
 flash plugin.

You're right. This side-effect makes my solution useless for you.
The problem is if you combine the _USER_OVERWRITE_ (to store a default
firefox profile) with the read-only option that it doesn't work right now.

Perhaps a solution could be a little script while booting, which cleans
the desktop. But I can't write such a script.

Yes i think this is the best option to solve your problem.
A combination of _USER_OVERWRITE_ and a new custom script
that cleans the desktop/home directory would be ideal.

If you need such a script please consider contacting our office for an
estimate. Also sorry for my late reply.

Kind Regards,
Bernd

Re: [openthinclient-user] 0.4.5. boot hangs after /scripts/nfs-top

2009-11-11 Thread Bernd Aufrecht

I just installed openThinClient 0.4.5 on a fresh Ubuntu 8.04 system.
Afer doing basic configuration boot starts but stops afert some steps
Last message shown is Running /scripts/nfs-topok
 That's it.

Hi,

to further investigate this issue, can you please provide the relevant
logfile entries
for the client and the server. There are both accessible from the manager.
Right click on the client for his log and the top realm (default:
openthinclient) for the serverlog.

Also what kind of hardware (thinclient, pc) are you using to boot? We have
currently some issues with newer hardware (network, chipset).

Regards,
Bernd
